A 'long throw' driver like a woofer can move back and forth about an inch. The usual for a woofer is half an inch.
The coil former inside the driver is much longer in a 'long throw' woofer (or speaker) and has winding and a magnetic gap that are longer. (Usually) So the cone has a bigger depth it can move in and out. It moves more air and thus stronger low frequencies.
So you could see it really moving around when it is working hard.
