Audio Research VT200 Noise on the Right Channel
Try swapping the tubes from the 'noisy' channel to the 'quite' channel. If the noise follows then you have your answer. I will say that tubes are the first thing to suspect in a tube piece of audio gear with problems.
Audio Research D110 or D111
ARC started with the D110 then the next generation was the 110B then 111. Differences between them is obviously parts and I was told by an ARC engineer that the 111 uses ring emitter output transistors. The 110 and (B) are the same physical and po...
Tube Amps
I would take a look at the Quicksilver mono blocks that allow you to put in different types of output tubes...KT88,EL34,6L6 and others, providing you have enough power. This way you can 'listen' to various types as well as brands of tubes. Not the...
Do I have tired tubes?
Unless someone 'messed with it', I cannot see how the 'tubes' can just go bad. If anything pull your cables and clean both the cable ends and the chassis connections. Turn the system on and let it run for a few days. Also did you by chance unhook ...
Tube Preamps under $1000 used
Try a Quicksilver full function preamp..oh for about $600, very stiff power supply and the midrange of tubes, well, you have to try it.
If tube amp is left on, but not playing........
Well IMO the tube still radiates electrons due to the boiling off process. Tubes send electrons across vacuum space and with music, much much more, without music, just less of them, but still a 'rush of white noise'- turn up the volume to hear it....
Do you pay seller for packaging supplies?
Is it a Ying or Yang? Anyway I've gone both ways but just to add to the thread (Rope by now) MAKE SURE the item is wrapped in a plastic bag of some sorts...MOISTURE, always double box with foam rubber or styrafoam between the boxes..ALL SIX SIDES ...
Why is my Audio Research SP6-b noisy?
All the above are correct, I would like to add that a lot of noise is can be generated by the power supply. In such power supply there is the infamous capacitors that go weak and tend to 'dry' up, thus allowing the line frquency (X2) to not be fil...
Cary in bed with Stereophile?????
Oh YES!! For there are a lot of 'High End' equipment designers / manufacturing people who can tell you that alot of the reviewers want the equipment 'donated' to the cause, another words ship us a sample and maybe we will review and if you don't w...
Audio Research D79
Nice choice of amps, with minor work that unit will perform against just about anything. Unit is a pentode operated in ultralinear, with a HUGH power supply (in the neighborhood of 550 joules). The first series of 79's were not noted as an 'A' but...
Can anyone help me with shielding stereo speakers
I've read and been told that to properly shield a loudspeaker, the process is done at the driver and not so much at the cabinet or area between the magnet and the tv picture tube. Thus said, the driver(s) have another magnet coupled to the voice c...
