New McIntosh amp build quality
I still love my C220 nearly ten trouble free years later. I sold the 275 IV to make way for 501s but still miss its way of making everything sound good. The 501s are more accurate and that can be good and bad. Never had an issue with any of them, ...
Curious what people think is the best "value" high end speaker (~5K to 15K)
Don't be afraid of the tweeter height on the Salon 2. I just got a pair and I am astounded at  the dispersion of this speaker. You can lay on the floor in front of them and the sound barely changes. That could not be said of the JBL 250 they are r...
Best used speakers under $10000
I just got a demo pair of Revel Salon 2's in this price range and they are spectacular. For my money, room and taste in music they beat out anything from Focal, ATC and Wilson anywhere near this price range. Seek out a pair and have a listen.
Would love some feedback / Denon DL-S1 / phono match / cart recomendations
I too was offered a great deal on a nearly new DL-S1 several years ago. It was used on a VPI Classic. I did not have enough gain in my pre at the time (ProJect Tube Box II SE) but I was able to secure a Bob's Cinemag SUT. I just could not get the ...
Distortion mystery -- MC cart mistracking? / transformer / head amp input saturation??
Been there....you can drive yourself crazy with this stuff. I first thought it was alignment, so I got the Mint mirror protractor. It helped a little but did not solve the issue. I then went down the AS road and bought the Telarc OmniDisc for the ...
Distortion mystery -- MC cart mistracking? / transformer / head amp input saturation??
I had almost the exact same issue with two different Transfiguration carts on my Classic 1. I would get occasional distortion (which I think was mistracking) on hotter cuts during difficult passages. I too went to the ART9 and I have never looked ...
VPI paper alignment jig
the vpi jig gets you in the neighborhood. the mint puts you at the right house, centered in the driveway equidistant from both house and street.it's that good....
How much gain is needed in a Phono Preamp for a 0.2 to 0.3mv low output moving coil?
Personally I would avoid the Transfiguration/VPI combo. I tried both a Temper Supreme and and Spirit III on my Classic and still got some IGD on hotter records. Tried all manner of alignments and protractors and eventually sold both carts. It was ...
new phono pre Pass Labs Xp-15 phono pre
Congrats! Love my Xono and don't see it going anywhere any time soon. The noise floor on these is just incredible. Hate the internal dip switches too but luckily I don't swap carts often.
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ...
After a lot of searching, reading and listening, I too have decided on the ART9. My table is a VPI  Classic and the preamp is a Pass Xono. My first ART9 is headed back to the person I bought it from as the cantilever was not straight. But even in ...
For VPI Unipivot Owners, do you use antiskating?
I didn't used to, and then I picked up a copy of the excellent Telarc OmniDisc turntable setup record. There is a test track specifically designed to help you dial in anti skate and without it, my Classic 1 with the 10.5 arm didn't fare that well ...
How do you tame a Denon DL-S1?
I tried a Bob's SUT with mine and did not like the strident high-end that resulted. I ended up biting the bullet and going with a Pass Labs Xono. I run it at 100 ohms and it sounds wonderful if perhaps just a tad on the bright side. As others have...
Solid State Phono Pre-amp Recommendations
I'll second the Pass Labs Xono recommendation. It is just a fabulous phono pre with enough adjustability to work with any cart you are likely to own. I am using one now with a Denon DL-S1 and could not be happier.
