Audio Research IR input
I'm doubtful about the necessity of a mono mini plug.  A "stereo" mini works fine for the 12V trigger so should work fine for IR.
Audio Research IR input
Nothing specific needed, just plug the mini-plug into the IR input. Something like this should work fine:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002JSDHCY/ref=psdc_3236443011_t1_B01LXO79CLThere are more expensive alternatives from Crutchfield, though I'm not s...
Mcintosh MC240 + Audio Research SP-8?
That MC240 is from the 1960s and is probably worth more than you paid for it. Original retail was $288.00! They sell for over $2k now, which is fine for collectors but is not for someone looking for best sound. The SP-8 is probably a better bet son...
what is going price of an Audio research LS-12
The used average selling price on Audiogon is $1330 which is a bit high (it's averaged over a long time) and the last sold for $1090. The LS12 was the solid state version of the LS16, very similar sounding with better bass.
Pricing Audio Research LS17
I think you can get at least $2000, maybe $2250. Last bluebook sold for $2800 but that's high. LS17 retailed for $3995, and the new SE is up to $4500.
Quad 2805s paired with a Audio Research VSi60?
The VSi60 is an absolutely wonderful match with the 2805s. It has lots of drive and great dynamics, nice HF extension, and surprisingly good bass. Those speakers benefit from great tubes like this--I wouldn't go for less.
