Classical Music for Aficionados
Guess I'm ready to make a fool of myself.Trying to cull my classical CD collection has been a chore. Over the past several decades, my wife and I managed to acquire multiple performances of things we liked - - symphonies, operas, concertos, choral...

bluestone, As a previous owner of a pair of 3.5s, they do best with a lot of power.  I ended up using a Bryston 4B series amp. They're infinite baffle speakers, so for best sound, they need the watts plus the equalizer. Just a thought

jafantPurchased the 17cubed last October (S/N 215) and ran it about 8 - 10 hours a day through mid-December.  I'd guess it settled in after about 280 hours use. Changed to a BP-26 I had bought for my son, and ran it from mid-December through late ...

jafantStill kicking, and really enjoying the 2.7s and collection of RedBook CDs. I now appreciate the BP17cubed preamp in lieu of either the BP6 or BP-26, especially for operas and chorales. It took a while for the 17 to settle in.

I didn't appreciate Mahler until listening to stereo LPs.  I'm new to this group, and probably will make a fool of myself. And, horror upon horrors, I have no particular preference for composers. I was taught  music should be judged on its own, an...

jafant In addition to your own preamp,  see if you can get them to use a "settled in" Bryston BP17 cubed preamp  with the 4B cubed amplifier.    The 17 preamp made a difference with my 4BSST2. Smoother and cleanly-defined upper midrange and highs,...

tomthiel,I listened to both the 3.7 and 2.7 in my dealer's showroom, using several of my own CDs.  I'd listened to these CDs over several years with my Thiel 3.5s, so I might have developed a certain mind-set as to what I wanted in a new pair of T...

profHave to agree with you with the sound of the 2.7 vs the 3.7. I auditioned both before choosing the 2.7s; however, I added a SmartSub 2.2 to the mix. (PX05 passive crossover.)

jafant,I’m patiently waiting. :-) :-) :-)Meanwhile,we’re awaiting for the polar vortex to hit us. (Forecast for minus 7 wind chill tomorrow.) I grew up in the Sonoran Desert, where the two most-hated four-letter curse words were Cold and Snow.George
What are the best speakers you have ever owned and why?
A mono  DIY I built in 1956 using JBL drivers and XOs. (Huge corner sand-filled cabinet based on a design in Audio Electronics. Had to tear it down when I moved. Finally on a pair of Thiel 2.7s with a SS2.2 sub.  Complete Satisfaction
Has there been any inexpensive item that enhanced your system's sound?
Like Elizabeth: RetiredMy Reed Sound Level/Pressure Meter. Really helped set up my speakers to best possible position and rearrange furniture to reduce standing wave reflections. For goeff: Quit flying Immelmans as it disturbs vestibular perception.
What area or country do you live in ?
Early Life: Sonoran DesertActive Life: US Air Force - - all over the worldRetired Life: Alexandria, Virginia
What are the best speakers you have ever owned and why?
A very large DIY mono that I built in 1958, using JBL drivers. (two 15" for the bass.)  Sand-filled  corner enclosure. (Thiele-Small hadn't come along as yet, so everything was based on calculated guesswork.)Drove the neighbors crazy.Couldn't move...
What is the best sound system you ever heard?
Not an electronic system, but the best sound I've ever heard was the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra playing in the Musikverein  in Vienna.
How many of you had been to all 50 states of United States.
Been to all 50 over the years; however, Arizona is my favorite. The topography ranges from the Sonoran Desert yo the mountains, while the Northern part contains the canyons carved by the Colorado and its tributaries.
