Copy coding on Memorex
Scott; could this have anything to do with the fact that a consumer grade CD Recorder cannot make a digital copy of a digital copy (your original would be digital even though it's of an LP?) The ones I've used (Pioneer and Phillips) can make the c...
to cut or not to cut: help
In all human endeavors there is a "particle' of risk"-- Mark Twain, paraphrased. If you change the PC is it possible to put the original back in? Your question really is an exercise in "risk management" or maybe tolerance for potential downside. I...
Should I stick to the same manufaturer?
I'd want to audition some different ICs and spkr cables 1st. Good Luck. Craig
How do you "downgrade"?
Thanks Sean. I've surely printed a number of your posts-- the RS SPL correction table post comes to mind.In keeping with the intent of the thread, which BTW is a good one IMO, I've considered going to a single box ML 39 CD player and a good integr...
Not a question, but a revelation
Hi T; that's been my experience too, and glad to see it's not just my imagination. I'm presently using the active shielded ICs from DAC to pre-amp and pre to amp (Lum. + Kal. X series). I power them with the MCC. Next step: active shielded spkr ca...
How do you "downgrade"?
Thanks Dsunde. I was hoping someone would catch my attempt at Gonzo humor. I've read HST's "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" 10-12 times and most of his other works as well. Cheers. Craig.
McCormack DNA1 options
Sean makes a good point, but my opinion would be to do both A & B. The McCormack upgrades are excellent and I'm a big believer in tube pre-amps. I've not heard your speakers, but they have a good reputation, and so I'd suspect your ICs or spkr...
SF Owners - worthwhile to upgrade a Line 1 to SE?
Hi Michaela; I just had my Line 2, which I've owned for nearly 4 years, up-graded to the SE level. The up-grade was $999., and was worth it to me. I've had it back less than a week now, so it's still breaking in, but my sense is that that it is sm...
Why SACD,DVD-A are already DEAD
Pardon me while I go burn a "best of" Fabulous T-Birds CD-R. The recordings are mediocre at best but the MUSIC IS GREAT. I have many obsessions, but SACD and DVD-A are not among them-- at least for now. Cheers. Craig
Suggestion for buying and selling on the site
Nice post Sean. Yet I understand what PI is saying, and I too like the "finality" of an eBay auction. If the item sells, a legal CONTRACT then exists between the two parties. I think PI is saying it would be nice to implement something like a CONT...
How do you "downgrade"?
.........good god! Do you people realize what you're saying??? I'm reaching for the Thorazine right now-- shaking and sweating badly now and only able to make sounds like a racoon-- got to get my therapist immediately-- and if able to speak cohere...
Why SACD,DVD-A are already DEAD
Re: Rlwainrights question about CCR CDs. The new re-masters were done using JVCs 20Bit K2 technology which is just PART of the XRCD process, but the new CCR CDs sound much better than the old originals. I emailed Rl.The new CCR CDs should be avail...
A question from a neophyte audiophile
Jc; "balanced" is a type of input and output terminal(s) (a 3 pin job) and is known as an XLR connector. Whereas "unbalanced" is known as the more common input and output RCA (single pin) connector and terminal. RCA is also known as "single ended"...
Power cord question
In a couple of cases I have screwed large hooks in the wood portion on the back of the shelf and secured the power cord to the hook using black wire ties. This works well and appearance is not an issue (for my system) as it's behind the rack. Good...
Why SACD,DVD-A are already DEAD
Nice post Scott. The FMD technology you describe sounds very "Star Trekish". Craig
