What amps should I audition?
Give the guys at PS Audio a call.  1-800-PSAUDIO. I have the Stellar mono blocks,  bought them used on Audiogon for 2k basically one of the best amps you can get for under 5k. Or move up to the BHK series. Stereo amp 250w for $7500 or mono blocks ...

Personally I would wait for PS Audio’s new speaker line. I tried single driver Zu Audio speaker, KEF, Wharfedale, 2 & 3 way design speakers. The new lineup is supposed to be 4 way w built in sub w DSP and both from & rear firing tweeters. ... 
best preamps
I say PS Audio Signature PreAmp, it’s $6000.00 but worth it. It works great even with high efficiency speakers. Mine are 97db efficient and there are several YouTube videos about the making and the sound.  
Another amateur in need of advice
KEF LS50’’s or PS Audio Sprout 100 may be your best place to start for your first system.

Consider the Goldenear triton 2+ which was used at Axpona this year with PS Audio Stellar line series.

Speakers with balls...check out the GoldenEar Triton two+ I auditioned and they rock with seemless bass integration and awesome imaging.    
Yet another Amp recommendation needed
Price wise....the previous post with Nuforce STA200 is a great amp but only RCA's.  S300 I believe is the best sounding choice out of all three choices mentioned.  I have all three and looking to sell my Parasound Halo A23(black).
