Does it make sense to use 6k$ Nos tube with 5K$ tube amplifier?
larryi, I just pulled one of my EML XLS 300B tubes a few minutes ago, and when I went to reinsert it, I had it turned 180 degrees out. It would NOT go in that way. These are ceramic sockets, so I'll have to disagree with that assertion, at least o...
Does it make sense to use 6k$ Nos tube with 5K$ tube amplifier?
Thomas, it seems to me it might be appropriate for you to try a few different sets of tubes that are being made currently. Takatsuki, EML XLS 300B (which I use and love in my Audio Assemblage SET 300B, purchased on auction here on Audiogon for $75...
Has anyone tried the Sun Valley 211/845 amp kit?
Thanks, that all sounds like real good advice. Good thing my life insurance is up-to-date.Dan
Has anyone tried the Sun Valley 211/845 amp kit?
I already have a beautiful sounding SET 300B. I am tantalized by those big triode tubes, an itch that wants scratching. DIY seems to be in my DNA. I just hope my itch doesn't kill me.Any useful safety tips for dealing with these voltages?Dan
Has anyone tried the Sun Valley 211/845 amp kit?
Well, I taught myself to solder pretty well, so that's not an issue. Possibly killing myself IS an issue. The vendor will build the unit, if requested. That shoots down my idea of building it myself, which I do enjoy. I've built three Class D amps...
Has anyone tried the Sun Valley 211/845 amp kit?
Thank you noromance, yes I have seen it, but I was hoping to hear from someone that has actually built one, and listened to it in action. I'm not too sure if I should even tackle it, considering the high voltages it uses, but curiosity about this ...
Hey That's Not So Bad if It's Class D
When my old Adcom five-channel amp went TU, I needed a low cost alternative to replace it. Already being curious about Class D, I contacted Class D Audio, and wound up building three of their kits. The last one runs two modules and produces 500 Wp...
Why price of Tannoy speakers from online retailers in UK is cheaper than in US
That's exactly why I built my own. I bought pair of HPD 315 (12" DC drivers), on Ebay UK, and was able to build them to a degree that Tannoy never would. All for roughly $5000.They are my speakers for life.Regards,Dan
New Member And few questions on First Tube Amp.
Harleyujoe,I am also a tinnitus sufferer ( heavy equipment operator, aircraft assembler, etc.) I'm 72, and I'm still enjoying music a great deal. My listening room is on the large side 34' X 16.5' w/cathedral ceilings). I use my SET 300B, which I ...

Sorry for the delay in my reply. My plinth isĀ  6-1" MDF segments stacked, with top, sides and face fashioned out slabs of Purpleheart, faceplate is 1" thick, top and side pieces are 3/8" thick Purpleheart as well.I mounted a Dynavector 501 arm, an...
WHAT TURNTABLE?
Slaw, I agree regarding the Acutex carts. I have two, the LPM 415 STR, and the LPM 320 III STR, great cartridges, and very surprising, considering their small size and weight.I also got sick and tired of the VPI wobble (Scout Signature), and built...
My Audio System and Invitation.
Thomas, I thought you lived in Seattle. Since you are meeting in Burlington, is your home close to that location? I live on the north end of Whidbey Island, west of Oak Harbor. I'm considering your kind offer.Regards,Dan
Solid Silver Wire and Logans
I am using the Big Twist 12 gauge solid silver (two sets, one for each amp setup), on my Tannoys, and I'm very happy with them. Though I can't speak to how well they will interface with your ML's, I would be surprised if they didn't work quite wel...
Plinth to armboard interface Garrard 301 plinth
I've had good luck with my 6" layered MDF plinth, Solid Purpleheart slabs, using 1" face board, 3/8" Purpleheart top and side plates, for my Garrard 401/Denon 103R. Purpleheart arm board is solidly affixed to the plinth using stainless allen screw...
Tannoy Legacy Ardens - which amp suggestions for 15 big ass babies
I've heard the opinion the Ardens can use additional internal bracing and dampening. There is Hans Hilberink's Tannoy site, and Hans' Yahoo Tannoy forum (Hans being the moderator), a tremendous amount of information available from either one. You ...
