Best amps for Totem hawks?? please help
This thread may be nine years old, but I still found it helpful when I acquired a pair of Hawks recently. Thanks to previous posters for giving me something to think about. I had a limited budget, so I did my best to find an amp with a substantial...
Educating Myself About Fan Noise
Eight years after the posts above, I want to thank jedinite24 for documenting so much information about the fan. I just bought a Sumo 9 without a prior listening test. The fan was definitely an issue. Having read it should be making 31dB of noise,...
Vintage receivers???
Forgive me if this should be a new thread, but I'm thinking about buying a Marantz 240 power amp from a local vintage hifi shop, with the intention of teaching myself to recap etc. Can anyone speak to how good an amp this could be, and what would ...
How to guess the volt-amp rating of the transformer in my amp
A look inside my PM6006 reveals it has 10,000 uF capacitors paired to its presumed 300 VA transformer, which is humbling by comparison.
How to guess the volt-amp rating of the transformer in my amp
Thanks, that’s really interesting! I just learned what the capacitors are for.
How to guess the volt-amp rating of the transformer in my amp
To answer my own question: I read online that a rule of thumb to find the fuse rating for a given circuit is 1.25 x Power/Volts. (I’m guessing 1.25 is some kind of fudge factor.) Applying that formula for 300VA gives 1.25 x 300VA/120V = 3.13A. The...
How to guess the volt-amp rating of the transformer in my amp
Thanks for your help! On the circuit board by the fuse (next to the transformer) the following is written:100V T5AL 250V120V T3.15AL 250V220-240V 1.6 250VI assume these are for different countries with different mains voltage. The bottom two both ...
