Solid platforms or speaker stands for JBL L65s?
Well,...I relented and tilted them back, lol.Seems like that’s the common thread in most discussion I’ve been reading over the past couple of years and, as it turns out,  with good reason.  All I had to do in my environment was to slip a 14” lengt...
RadioParadise streaming FLAC
hgeifman,... in the RP app on my iPhone, in the window that shows what song is playing, there’s an icon to extreme right in the row below the “play” and “pause” buttons that looks like a little pyramid with concentric circles emanating from its to...
RadioParadise streaming FLAC
I’ve streamed RP in the FLAC setting over the RP app on my iPhone > Airport Express > my main system for a couple of 2 hour-ish stretches now over the past 48 hrs..  Sounds very good to me...the high freq. seems ever so slightly rolled off c...
Novice Digital (wired) Question(s)
Thanks for the info, ljgerens,...It’s been most helpful to me in making this process understandable! Finally got some spare time to do some more web surfing on the topic and, based on what I’d read, decided to go ahead and hook up the Airport Expre...
Novice Digital (wired) Question(s)
Thanks very much, sfar.  Sounds like a great system....not sure if I’ve got the finances to go that route though.  I think I’ve got the info narrowed down enough now, re: my own circumstances, to ask a more focused question that’ll help me to deci...
Novice Digital (wired) Question(s)
Going the Apple Airplay route, would you anticipate any appreciable loss in sound quality as opposed to via a cable?  Actually, I’ve been using an Apple TV to more or less do this thru an AV receiver prior to getting the tube amp.  Trouble (?) is ...
JBL - almost nothing for sale, why?
I’ve got L65s (These don’t include the “Jubal” designation.) that I purchased from Pacific Stereo in the Spring of 1978.  Recently started running them with tubes and am in love again!  Sometimes I’d like to score a 2nd pair of speakers of the sma...
Time to look at newer speakers?
Mtrot, I’m thinking Freediver’s high figure of $3500 US would be appropriate for my situation...certainly less if I can manage it.  Also, I’m limited to a smallish listening environment...speakers are on a long wall which opens into the kitchen ar...
I’m gob smacked. What were you’re aha moments?
Like others, my “gobsmacked” moment has been with going from SS to tubes.  I’m more on the “starving artist” end of the audiophile spectrum, but managed to snag a pair of speakers very early on (JBL L65s) that have quieted any serious upgrade-itis...
Record cassettes to digital?
Another Audacity endorsement here. I've converted a small mountain of LPs and cassettes to AIFF files and imported to iTunes on my Mac with very good results. From there, I can burn to CD (rarely do this anymore as I'm into streaming the iTunes li...
Lower Powered Tube Integrated for Studio/Shop?
Mods...please delete this post. I posted a similar one recently here and didn't find it until now... Thanks
How to transfer LP to iMAC Computer
I've had great results using a free program called Audacity (There's a bit of a learning curve but nothing insurmountable.). I run my turntable, first to an inexpensive phono preamp that I purchased from a guitar store (around $50) and then out to...
SS or Tube Amp for Sawdust Environment?
Thanks all. I think I'll stick with solid state after your suggestions...ideally a middle of the line '70s receiver and a plastic cover for those times when generating a lot of dust. The power tools don't get used but about 20% of the time. Nice n...
Large Object Between Mini Monitors on Stands...
...'Is this large object going in the same room where you are putting the speakers on the shelf ( because there is not enough room for speaker stands ) ?'...It's already there. I'm figuring the front legs of the (steel) drafting table could be fit...
Best JBL's you have heard
I bought a pair of L65s brand new in 1978 and have never been able to part with them. I suppose, however, the best JBL I ever heard was the Paragon (looked like an entire 1960s Philco or the like console system except it was a big speaker?). The y...
