Tidal News RE: Sprint Acquires 33 Percent of Jay Z's Tidal for $200 Million makes sense for all concerned. tidal was unlikely to ever show a profit as a free-standing enterprise and sprint needs content to compete/survive. i wonder if sprint will start discounting tidal to its subscribers, since that $19.99/mo. is a big i...
What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report ron wood, i've got my own album to do. i literally haven't listened to this disc in 20 years, but was surprised at how almost-uniformly strong the songs were. "mystifies me", later covered by son volt, is something of a lost classic.
Whats on your turntable tonight? i agree with bdp on the untitled-era byrds, and untitled is kind of a schizophrenic record--the live sides are vg, but the studio side (chestnut mare notwithstanding) is pretty spotty. its predecessors, "dr. byrd" and "easy rider" actually hold up...
Small form factor CDP? look at the project maia, which has a really small form factor

Vincent SV-236MK undoubtedly there are better amps than the vincent out there--the pass labs int are great--but you'd probably be looking at significantly more $$ for incremental improvement. i like unplugged's suggestion of upgrading the tubes.
Klipsch subwoofers...Any good? i haven't heard the current reference series but at various times owned the ksw subs, which were kinda boomy/non-musical. (i still own an old mk volkswoofer, which is excellent), i'd agree that hsu, svs, etc. would be worth looking at
What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report a place to bury strangers
What do you think of soundbars compared to speakers? a firend of mine has the yamaha yas203, which is <$400, and i was surprised at how immersive it was--seems to get very good reviews as well
Rolling Stones Blue and Lonesome i agree with hodu that they're loose and having fun--it's nice to see them get away from the rigid studiocraft that sucked the life out of most of their recent stuff. however, there's a vague sense of parody to the project--they maintain a certain...
Tune of the Day the jam, "ghosts". pretty song.
Random thoughts from a sort of, kind of audiophile i'm surprised noone's commented on the op's opinion regarding power supply. there seems to be enough real science to support the real measurable benefits of a clean power supply, even if some of us are losing our ability to hear the differences
Tune of the Day the priest, by joni mitchell. best song nick drake never wrote. 35 years after first hearing it i still remeber the lyrics. which must signify something
Samsung buys Harman for $8B So far this is my experience with my 2012 Plasma TV that had a main board fail. Excellent TV until it decided not to completely power up one day. I may amend this post if they come through with a partial(depreciated) refund after "reviewing"...
Mose Allison his lyrics were very sharp, with a sort of angsty, rebellious edge--you can see where pete townsend took a lot of inspiration. allmusic also lists hendrix, elvis c. and lyle lovett as his followers, which seems correct. |
