File Under Misc. Audio Musings--Do any famous/infamous people qualify as audiophiles?
Bill Gates.Fabio is genuine audiophile with a cost no object system. But now  reportedly he collects motorcycles.Seems like most Hollywood stars are more interested in high-end custom built HT.
The Carver Amp Challenge and the 21st Century and it's Failure
@spatialking , interesting story. I knew Bob’s ego was beyond the pale back in the day, but that was very ballsy behavior.Clearthink, I’ve read the stories where Bob was considered a showman or a barker. I can see how those in the industry resente...
The Carver Amp Challenge and the 21st Century and it's Failure
+1 @elizabeth , and why are there so many Bob haters? I also would like to see more user reports about the 75 watt amp.
Differences between cd transports?
I believe @dobnbav is talking about much more than controlling jitter. As stated, the power supply, laser, etc. creates a sonic signature of the component. A poor design or low quality parts will pass this signature to the next component.
Differences between cd transports?
Assuming transports are working properly, there is also often errors in reading optical discs in real time as CD players must do, especially with poor quality, defective, or damaged discs that can affect results differently from transport to trans...
300B Warmup versus other tube or SS amps?
Perhaps there is no easy answer for tube amps. It might depend on design, size of transformers, caps, type of wire, tube type. One of my SS amps took hours to sound its best, so I left it powered up.With tubes it's easy to hear the SQ increase as ...
300B Warmup versus other tube or SS amps?
Does a longer warmup time have to do with the amp being Class A?For optimal sonics my Class A push/pull takes much longer to warm up than my AB amp.

Listening Levels for Classical Music / Slightly electronic sound at high levels
At this point, playing vinyl may be the way to diagnose this issue. Most modern pressings originate from digital production/mastering which does impart different characteristics than AAA.   My advice; use a known high quality record from either an...
Listening Levels for Classical Music / Slightly electronic sound at high levels
Are you using any vibration control or isolation on your sources? You have a PSA dac, what is your source?I’m asking since the highs with orchestral music on my system resulted in a sizzle or digititis. I changed DACs and added a reclocker to lowe...
Upgrade advice from old Cardas Quadlink 5 RCA Interconnects
http://www.cardas.com/cables.phpAll of the Golden series has the original Cardas sonic signature; warm mids, lack of high-end extension, not a very detailed cable. Good for taming a bright system. I believe Golden Presence was top of the line with...
Upgrade advice from old Cardas Quadlink 5 RCA Interconnects
Have you checked the website to see how the new line of IC’s relate to the discontinued (Legacy) cables? For example, the Parsec is an improved version of the old Crosslink. It’s a bit more detailed with the same sonic signature. This would be a ho...
Recommendations on what I should listen to with my new TIDAL account......
A word of warning regarding Tidal, their library of classical and jazz is not very deep. That’s why the 30 day free subscription is a good option. Tidal leans heavily to rock, pop, and hip hop. Don’t know about country. Qobuz is new in the US and ...
My book shelves/ audio center.
Yes, it could be the phono pre due to noise, lack of headroom. Records should have detail in the highs. If you start to enjoy vinyl, then make incremental upgrades such as better phonostage and cartridge. If you feel vinyl will be in your future, ...
My book shelves/ audio center.
@n80, I guess the answer regarding cones is "it depends." If the table and platter are heavy and built to specific tolerances, then cones would work to drain vibration from the TT. If your Sony is lightweight and made of plastic, then there may be...
