ARC Ref 3 Power Cord
In over 30 years of using ARC amps & pre's, I have always found that changing the stock power cords afforded a significant improvement in the clarity and bass. I started out changing the old hard wired PC's as they deteriorated with visual sur...

Who was your first
My Grandma used to let me play her 78's of Ella, Ellington, Hawkins & Lester Young when I was about 4 years old, on an old wind-up gramaphone and then Dave Brubeck was probably a re-awakening about 8 years later.I suppose 55 years later and st...
SME 30 / 12 pre-release details.
Indeed it is. Fantastic people to deal with. Always return calls and emails - unlike some dealers I could mention! In these hard times, I hope its people like these who survive, and some of the dealers who never return calls are still the same - fo...
SME 30 / 12 pre-release details.
Hi Raul,I haven't ordered yet, these are the pre-release details that I got from a UK dealer. I had inside information that a 12" version of the SME 30 would be released in 2009 and have been holding off from ordering a 20/12, because of that. It ...
Audio Research Ref. 210 questions
I changed to Nordost Brahma power cords and found a significant uplift in clarity of sound. You could try sourcing some Pabst fans, they have run really quietly for me when I changed them in other ARC amps. The Ref 210's didn't have enough output to...

Well recorded/remastered Police?
I got a test pressing of 'Synchronicity' a couple of years ago. The sound is amazing. Think it was being pressed by Analogue Productions.
ARC VT-200 Cooling Fan Noisy, nit picking?
I suffered the same problem of noisy fans with my ARC 120's & 150's and cured the problem by replacing the Taiwan made original fans with those made by Pabst, Germany. They are widely available in Europe.I just bought fans covers for my ARC 61...
VPI balanced junction box installation
Stringreen, think you are mistaken because the dimensions of the RCA box differ to the XLR, as a bigger internal size is required to mount the XLR's. I found it no to be the quick and easy change I thought, it be but quite worth the effort.
Experience bringing older gear up to date ARC, CJ
2xARC Classic 120's. 2xARC Classic 150's.Modified with Pabst motoren,Germany, type 4840n fans, hard wired mains cables & G.E. 6550A valves.Started off mods to get rid of noisey fans, did some tube rolling and was lucky find enough NOS G.E. 655...
Quad 63 US Monitor rebuild?
I had my ELS 63's rebuilt by Quad Musikweidergabe in Germany - they bought all the NOS from Quad when they sold up, tooling, etc., and found them to be very helpful and a satisfactory job. They have also evolved a couple of improvements in remanuf...
Which ARC Linestage?
It may seem little like madness - as I now own a Ref 3 but I think the LS2B was a great sounding line stage. Not many features but a had great soundstage and control [grip] on the music where the late LS's get a bit loose IMO in exchange for a sof...
Apogee vs Soundlab
Dazzdax, living in the UK its very difficult to find dealers with Sound Labs and none to listen to with different tube amps, and as I have had ARC tube amps for many years I thought that the new 210's would be a good match. I was wrong! They don't...
Quad ESL or Soundlab?
I had Quad ELS 63's and Gradient SW63 Subs. for more than 20 years, which were superb & lived with me until I moved house and finally got a big dedicated room. They don't work too well in a big open space.I now have Sound Lab U1-PX's with whic...
