Home Theater for Dummies

Is there a reference or could someone briefly explain DTS, Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Surround, PCM etc?? When playing a DVD on my HT receiver, the disc may say DTS but it plays using Dolby Digital??

Wow! Couldn't have said it better myself.

Just would like to add, pro-logic uses a steering logic via frequency separations:
Freq hz-0 to 100 goes to sub
something over 5k goes to rear
1k to 3k goes to center channel
100 to 1k and over 3k goes to mains
THX pro-logic merely has some modification to the steering logic.
I love it when someone uses my pseudonym in the title of a thread. Thanks f'r the explain.
Viggen has it wrong. Steering logic not based on frequency w/ the exception of the subwoofer (LFE) channel. Has more to do w/ phase relationships derived from the stereo (e.g. L-R=surround, L+R=C) information. The surround channels of ProLogic I are bandwidth limited and in mono.
