Another excellent post. Agreed, materials science and metallurgy are fascinating to me. These factors have drawn me to cables and power cords since the 1990's. It all begins w one's first aftermarket interconnect or power cord purchase. Happy Listening!

tomthiel
I would be interested in your recollection of cables and power cords that Thiel Audio used in the lab. You have touched on some of the power amp(s) that were incorporated for lab testing. Perhaps Jim had a favorite brand that was tested, utilized.

I have a Bryston 4B3 and BP-17(3) demo in a few weeks. I have had several Bryston 4B-SST, SST2 and BP-26 audtions in the past. Really looking forward to the new cubed series audition. Stay tuned.
Happy Listening! |
I see tomthiel. I can understand your position not to go against the great JGH. After all of these years, he is still the MAN! Harry Pearson as well.
Did you or Jim ever meet JGH or HP outside of Audio shows? Ever receive an invite to either publisher's personal residence?
Happy Listening!

Well, your and Jim's hard work, endless hours of perfection, certainly paid off big time- tomthiel.
You guys have a dedicated following here and across other Audio forums. Not every speaker company can make this kind of claim. Hope Mr. Rob Gillum is well and having fun.

Welcome! boilers1
I have had the pleasure of listening to the Rega Elicit -R integrated on different speakers that sounded pretty good. Thiel speakers crave high-current. I am interested to learn the current output of your Rega? It could be that the volume has to increase to gain a certain output level?
My first CS 2.4 listening experience was with a Creek integrated that did not have the power of your Rega. Remembering back, I did adjust the volume to musical taste. Hope this has been helpful.

Happy Friday the 13th- ALL. |
Keep me posted on your Audio journey - boilers1 The CS 2.4 should not exhibit any congestion of any kind? My demo of the Rega included the Rega Saturn-R player and a Macbook Pro (to show off the internal DAC/Computer Audio capability).
Double check all connections on all gear. Yes, agreed that the Rega is very capable. The Creek that I demo'ed was half powered and still sounded very fine with a NAD 565BEE player.

brayeagle I am looking forward to the audition as well. It is going to be interesting to learn the advancement of the cubed series. Happy Listening! |

Good to see you. Thank You for the comments. I would not mind getting a demo on the ML No. 585 integrated. It has received high marks all around. The early reports on the Bryston 4B3 is that it has a warmer presentation than previous series. This might account for the presentation, sound that you heard during your demo.

Thank You for your comments and replies to my query. I think that we all started with Monster Cable at one time or another. I know that Transparent then M.I.T. were some of the earliest adopters of aftermarket cabling and power cords. It would be interesting to learn which company came into existence in Europe and Japan. No doubt that Ray Kimber had a hand in those early days of cabling. Wonderful CES story. A few years ago I did hear Straight Wire and was impressed with its entry level IC and PC. Very musical to my ears. This tells us that one does not need to spend much money to achieve great sound. Happy Listening!

nice deduction on the Acoustic Zen cables. Over the years, I have spent the most time, owned, Transparent Audio products. From my previous system I endorsed the Super IC and PC. Very good for little money. Imagine my surprise when I had more than several opportunities to audition the top-tier Ref, RefXL and OPUS cabling systems. Beyond belief. Happy Listening! |

As above, yes the system has been buggy all week for me as well. The original or version 1.0 never had these issues... |
pwhinson
Good to see you. Yes, SR is a sonic match for Thiel speakers. IMO, the expense is worth the outcome. Thank You for sharing your cabling history. Happy Listening!
|
brayeagle
Agreed- it is still buggy between the "Sorry" and "Error 500" nonsense.
Happy Listening! |
brayeagle
Yes, still buggy from my end? Happy Listening! |
prof
Agreed, seems to be a mix of "Sorry" and "Error 500" nonsense. I do know that this newer platform or Version 2.0 is an App-driven model. Perhaps an App server as well? |
vair68robert
No- the other Audio forums send a maintenance notice well in advance reporting that the site goes down for said amount of days, times.
I follow all of the sites listed on dailyaudiophile.com on a very regular basis. Audiogon appears to have a different interaction, look and operating platform in comparison. An exact location here in the USA and its server(s) locale would be of interest to me. |

Excellent discussion Andy, Tom, Prof I know that Beetlemania and Tom, specifically, are working diligently on this XO project that will benefit us very soon. I am looking forward to the final products for upgrade and excited by ClarityCap CSA best offerings. To address Andy's initial query, yes, the CS 2.4SE is an extra dose of sweetness to an already sweet CS 2.4 loudspeaker in stock form.

Much Thanks! for the update. Good to read that VAC and Thiel are sonic matches. Keep us posted as you massage the Renaissance V into your system and room. I have often thought about the VAC integrated amp and its impact w/ Thiel speakers. Are you using all Wireworld cabling?

Excellent! drrsutliff
Audience is an even better choice. Good to read about this brand mating well w/ the CS 2.4 loudspeaker. I have been trying to get an updated audition w/ Audience. I t has been over 10 years and several generations back (Au24) since my last demo. Audience's power conditioner is highly regarded as well.

Thank You for more history markers, this time, addressing the various series of Thiel Audio's wonderful loudspeakers.
