Masters Of Reality, S/T. "Domino" https://youtu.be/I3AFX3r5CAE Mark Knophler, The Ragpickers Dream. "Coyote" https://youtu.be/Huf-7dZ8Rts N |
paul kelly, comedy--very smart melodic folk/rock on the order of neil finn or freedy johnson, but with the punky verve of early kinks. huge in australia, fwiw chris stapleton, from a room--a country record for people (like myself) that don't always crave country--lots of 60s soul feel to it. i've had this one on repeat for awhile now. |
Tull - To Cry You a Song... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNCEIGgyIS4&ab_channel=GasparLewis "Thought I saw angels, But I could have been wrong." |
Nutty - Stand Up is one of my favorite Classic Rock albums, a genre I am O-fish-alee TIRED of. But there are just some gems that have staying power. Stand Up is one of ’em. Benefit is another. I’m not a huge Tull fan but those two...very, very good. We "Used to Know" is an excellent track. Love how it builds. "Reasons for Waiting" - another stand out track from Stand Up. I am an absolute sucker for those strings. Thanks for mentioning. Was listening to it just the other day. Great album cover too. |
A Pink Floyd "The Wall" two CD cover set with Ian Anderson and Rick Wakeman. Yoyo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble. Red Hot Chili Peppers "Stadium Arcadium". Buddy Guy "Living Proof". All Jamaican All Star Jazz Band, especially on "My Boy Lollipop" and "Walk On By", two tremendous recordings. Rosie O'Grady's Good Time Jazz Band, Direct to Disc and aphex enhanced! Maynard Ferguson "Blues Roar" with MF's tune, "Everyday I Have The Blues". "Oscar Peterson + 1" with Clark Terry. "Kansas" (Surprised me too!) "Song For America".
|
Bing & Ruth - "No Home of the Mind" - something tranquil to begin the Sabbath. Track 5, The How of It Sped https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-X8B_1v0Es&ab_channel=4AD |
Chris Cornell, "Nothing Compares 2 U", (Prince Cover) https://youtu.be/IuUDRU9-HRk Im a huge Kansas fan. Lets face facts. Kansas had muscle! And Steve Walsh is one of my all time favorite vocalist and frontman. "Schemer Dreamer" https://youtu.be/Rxk8zzsfAXM "People Of The Southwind" https://youtu.be/FtXwopQ0GYo N |
badfinger, ass--their resident genius, pete ham is oddly subordinate on this one, with only two songs, but i think it's their most listenable overall matthew sweet, in reverse--i've sorta overlooked this one but it impresses on close listen; ambitious, kitchen sink arrangements (horns, choruses, etc.), kind of like a power-pop "pet sounds" |
Tangent - "Collapsing Horizons" Great sound and mood throughout. Tangent is a Netherlands-based "deep ambient duo" consisting of Ralph van Reijendam and Robbert Kok. Playlist of the entire recording here... https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvLWnWsYFFy4pnOu6oUUT4BTHCjRtnF9X |
@reubent Thanks for taking time to reply. Glad you are enjoying Capt’n. Fantastic. I do recall Saved My Life Tonight. Did not remember it was from this album though. Strong composition with a beautiful melody. Had to find it on Tidal. Listening to it now...Sugar Bear. On the other hand, CF&TBDC has the much loathed Philadelphia Freedom. Oh well. I’ll check out the Wikipedia article. Did read the story behind Someone Saved My Life. Long John Baldry. Who knew? Okay. Thanks again. Ciao. Just read the Wiki article at the link you provided. Shows you what I know with my dismissive attitude towards this LP. Didn’t realize how well regarded it was with some considering it one of the best if not the best by EJ & Taupin. Hey - no accounting for taste...mine or those others! |
@ghosthouse - So, I really like Captain Fantastic. It was from my High School Years and I have very fond memories of it from back in the day. Interestingly, I did not know the story behind it until recently. Check out the wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Fantastic_and_the_Brown_Dirt_Cowboy It's way more pop'y than the first 3-4 albums. More in line with other mid-'70's albums immediately before and after it. There is the big hit - "Someone Saved My Life Tonight", which I personally always liked. But my favorite part of the record is the 3 closing tunes - "Writing, We All Fall In Love Sometime and Curtains". I love the transition between "We All Fall In Love Sometime and Curtains". I'm really happy that I found a really nice, near mint copy of the album, with lyric and photo books. And I got it for $5. SCORE! |
