Yahoo transaction? Western Union? Or just scam

Anyone knows if Yahoo is working with Western Union now? One seller from UK with 0 feedback asked me to pay a third-party "Yahoo Financing Transaction Agent" VIA WESTERN UNION first and the seller will send out the item when he got notified from that "agent" about the payment. That seller claims this is a safe payment method offered by Yahoo and the Yahoo Transaction Agent will hold the payment until I receive the item and if I am not satisfied in 3 days, I can return the item and get my refund back. Sounds perfect, but just can't find any proof from Yahoo's website even though I did receive a payment notice email from a Yahoo account and that email has Yahoo's logo on it, but have heard too much about scams using Western Union...

I just fell victim of this scam. Lost $2400 for a Rowland preamp. Audiogon pulled the ad, but i wrote a post to warn others and it never posted. I feel like audiogon should post warnings to help other members, not to just make their site look good.

That really stinks. Sorry to read about it.

What was the seller's Audiogon username? Location? Any other characteristics of the ad that might red flag the seller's MO?
Well,
Audiogon took off his ad, his name was brandvold1234@aol.com. I know i won't deal with anyone other than a seasoned agon member from now on. I wish audiogon did more to alert us of scams. I think they don't want any bad publicity and just quickly pull the scammers. I emailed them but got no response. I hope there is a way to track the credit card they used to post the ad. They told me a person with a foreign passport picked up the money. I geuss i got lulled into a false security here on the 'gon.

Audiogon knows the person who picked up the money had a foreign passport, or "they" refers to someone else with whom you've had contact? If it refers to Audiogon, I am simultaneously impressed and shocked that they would have this knowledge.
No, sorry for the confusion. Western Union has his passport info from when he picked up the Wire. Audiogon has some info i would assume from his payment of his ad. I filled out a police report, who knows if they will try very hard to solve this problem. I doubt it.
