02-14-08: Cathode
Put the monoblocks behind the speakers, with the rear of the amps facing the speakers. The idea is to get the binding posts on the amps as close as possible to those on the speakers, allowing you to use as little speaker cable as possible. If the binding posts on the speakers are near the ground, you may be able to get away with only a few inches of cable.
I was surprised when the manufacturer of my speakers, Silverline Audio, was insistent that his speaker cables be a minimum of 10 feet and a maximum of 15 feet in length for proper impedance matching to his speakers. I believe this is consistent with the characteristic impedance theory discussed by Atma_Sphere.
This is why it may be beneficial to discuss the issue with your speaker manufacturer if that option is available.
