Who has made a move and did you let movers take Hi-Fi

Packed up my system today, along with all of my Vinyl as we are moving in two weeks.  I double boxed the Vinyl along with using styrofoam as insulation.  I'm not taking a chance with movers and will be loading up my truck and bringing myself.

Sounds like you’ve already made up your mind. How far a distance are you moving?
I moved a fair sized household, multiple hi-fi, sizable record collection, art, books, etc. from NY to Texas last year. We did use a professional mover- but for the records I packed them myself along with all the gear (had a little help from a few professionals on that front, including breaking down two full sized racks of gear that were not part of the main hi-fi). Had to have some crates built for my horns and a few other fragile, hi-value artifacts, all done very well by a specialty outfit that contracts with the mover. (My experience was that the quality of the specialty craters varied, depending on location). In almost all other respects for the gear, I had the original packing, even going back to a mid-’70s ARC amp that I’ve owned since new and kept mainly for sentimental value.
All the hi-fi and records made it here fine. I did have some issues with the mover-- even the high priced "white glove" movers are, well, less than what you’d want. Gotta say, we had a mover in the New York metro area some years ago that was involved in a few local moves that was fabulous.
I moved my gear myself. The year before we were having our new house built and we were selling our existing house. I was pretty sure the new house wouldn't be ready in time so made arrangements with a friend to store my system at his house. I wasn't comfortable with the movers handling the gear and even less so with the prospect of putting it into a storage unit for a couple of months.
Last move was only about one mile distance.I owned 13,000 LPs and decided to seriously weed them down to 6000. Tossed lots of dups, but mainly endless Classical junk.(straight to Goodwill, still own 1500 Clasical LPs)
I was lucky I could move theLP and shelving in advance and put them in a locker at the new apartment building. Used McDonalds frozen french fry boxes.Everything transported in my car until final day when had help with a big minivan for the oversized stuff.
