to SACD or not
Velocityofhue - If you are considering a non-SACD player in the $5K to $10K range, I recommend you consider the ARC CD8. I have the CD7, the Ayre 5xeMP, the Mcintosh MCD500, and the Marantz SA11S2. Each is in its own system and chosen for various ...
Buy new integrated or vintage?
Smitty - Anthems punch well above their weight class. One system in our home is a hybrid 2-channel/HT. The Anthem Statement A5 amplifier does double duty, and it is more than good enough to not be sonically embarrassed by the 2-channel gear, which...
Buy new integrated or vintage?
You might very well be able to score a used Anthem 225 for around $1K or so, and that is one heck of a great integrated amp. Tremendous value, and built like a tank.

Thank you for that information. I subsequently read on the web site that the most recent version added a physical barrier to prevent dust from entering the CD play section.
The Ultimate SACD Machine
Paulfobrecht - Thank you. My obviously SUPER UNDERSTANDING wife would say they are irrefutable evidence of my addiction! She is of course right.I hope you find the player that meets your needs. If you had asked for redbook only CD player recommend...

System 1 - Shindo Masseto, Luxman MQ-88, DeVore Fidelity Silverbacks. System 2 - Leben RX28-CX, Accuphase P-3000, Sonus Faber Guarneri Mementos, Rel R-305. System 3 - ARC Ref 3, Anthem Statement A5, Verity Fidelio Encores, Rel B-2.In these systems...
The Ultimate SACD Machine
I have 3 different SACD players in 3 different systems and have A/B'd them against each other in each of the 3 systems. Always with the same result - the Ayre C5xeMP is the best, and considerably better than the Mcintosh MCD500 and Marantz SA11S2....

The Aura Note looks very interesting. Since the sliding glass door slides back and forth, thereby always leaving one side open/uncovered, has anyone experienced any problems with dirt/dust accumulation where the CD is placed? The design appears to...
Phono Stage or TT upgrade
"Slam, speed and dynamics" - For a turntable I would recommend the Well Tempered Amadeus but that is going to be above your stated $2000 limit, even used. If you go the phono stage route and want the phono stage to be DEAD QUIET as well as helping...

Wow. More choices than I thought possible. Many thanks!

Thank you for the responses so far. I knew about and had begun to research the Denon S-5BD, which looks interesting. Did not know about the Esoteric RZ-1, which is even more money than the Naim Uniti. The latter could work in my favor if I end up ...
Most musical integrated amp you have heard?
Leben, and any of the class A offerings from Luxman and Accuphase.
Best Phono solid state under 2K?
You should be able to get the excellent Nagra BPS used for under $2K. It is a superb phono stage.
$3500 to spend on a tube preamp....ideas?
This is too easy. Shindo Aurieges.
8 ohm speaker that sounds like sonus faber
Congratulations, Rugby1! I have the Silverbacks in my reference system, and although I do not find them to sound all that similar to my Sonus Faber Guarneri Mementos (which is THE ONLY REASON I did not suggest them in my previous reply to your pos...
