Bias on Koetsus
My Walker turntable has no anti skate and I adjust the tonearm by centering it over the platter where it doesn’t favor any direction. This is done using a blob of fun tack on the counterweight that’s equal to the weight of the Koetsu. When my Koet...
How to apply LP9 stylus cleaner?
I pour the entire contents of the original LP#9 bottle into a tiny plastic screw top container (about twice the diameter of a soda cap). I then throw the factory bottle and brush away. From my new wide top container, I immerse the (supplied) RR sti...
Scrambler Guitar
The Wachovia Bank said that the music in the recent commercialswas composed by Billy West, and was specifically designed forWachovia's advertising campaign. The slide guitar is played by DavidSemann. David has played with artists such as Peter Gab...
High Powered Speakers?
The big U-1, A-1 and M-1 Soundlab speakers can handle 750 to 1000 watts of power according to Dr. West, their creator. I have not had the opportunity to put that large an amplifier on my Soundlabs, but it would be nice to audition.
Rrecommeded "loading" for a Benz Ruby?
The answer depends on your phono stage, cabling and personal taste. I think Musical Surroundings (the importer) suggests 47K. Although that provides good results, I preferred 27K which lowered the distortion and smoothed out the high frequencies.
Review: Record Research Lab Shine Ola CD\DVD\SACD cleaner Tweak
This just goes to show that you know your “sh*t” from Shine Ola.I use this product and their LP cleaner as well. I too had never been totally satisfied with cleaners until RR products came along. It’s amazing how much difference a small inexpensiv...
Benz "Woodbodies" orig vs. NEW 2's
You can only make this comparison if you wear shorts to your fathers 60th birthday party, cook fajitas for everyone and then make the comparison using the “piss yellow” reissue of the Beatles, “Yellow Submarine.”Oh yea, it also helps if your broth...
Rediscovering the Joy of Digital?
I’m just sorry I wasn’t the first in line to ask for all those “old sorry” vinyl LP records. At least run a list by me, I might be interested in buying.
Is vinyl dead ?
Sean, are the voices in Stereo or Mono?
Vandersteen VCC-1
I have a good friend who is a Vandersteen dealer. Maybe I will ask to borrow one for an audition. Given my satisfaction with the small one, I’m sure your recommendation is a good one.On the subject of Vandersteen, This evening my wife, son and I h...
Vinyl pressing mistakes
Maybe I was confusing it with the Beatles butcher block album.
Vinyl pressing mistakes
Hey Sean, you should get out of your “shell” that Yertle the Turtle" rocks. The cuts as I remember are:“White Rabbit“ (with apologies to Jefferson Airplane).“Happy Together“ (originally by the Turtles).“I may be slow but I’m ahead of you”“They name...
Vandersteen VCC-1
Just goes to show that everyone's experience is different. I use the Vandersteen VCC-1 on top of a large rear projection Pioneer TV, just as Sdcampbell describes. My Vandersteen sits between Soundlab Ultimate Ones, so the description given by Mmow...
Have you owned Sound Labs Electrostatics?
Lrsky, Soundlab has had some maintenance problems over the last few years. There was an issue with some defective insulation, bad bias controls and even failing of the high voltage supplies. Soundlab seemed to be “snake bitten” for awhile and my p...
Have you owned Sound Labs Electrostatics?
Lrsky, Yes the bridged Classe CA-201 will drive Soundlabs with ease. Like others here I prefer tubes but the Classe is a good amp and with proper set up of the speakers you would have excellent sound.
