Playback designs followup?
Precisely what I was thinking. How many people have a PD and it would take some minimum sales number before any modders would likely spend the time to create any particular mods for the unit. btw, Jonathan, nice of you to continue "forgetting" to ...
Advice on stacking equipment
Be careful as besides the isolation aspects, you're also putting a weight on top of a piece of equipment which often has as obvious audible effect (which may improve or deteriorate your system's performance).
Von Schweikert VR-5 vs Revel Salon2
Precisely, the dealer ads on these boards masquerading as informed opinions are *always* in poor taste, regardless of disclosure.

DCS Puccini and/or Soulution 740 players? Anyone??
high-rez downloadable content is rapidly growingLet's not get crazy; it's improving, but at a glacial pace. There is still a paucity of popular music in high res and it is often unclear if the tracks are simply upsampled or properly remastered int...
What amp for B&W 804?
I enjoyed the Ayre V-3 (no longer in production so you would have to buy used) with the B&W N804 and the Ayre AX-7e integrated with the B&W 804S in setups I've owned. Either of those (the AX-7e can be used purely as an amp) or a used V-5xe...

My dilemma, some advice please.
imo, you'd be better off with a player that can decode the codecs and then send LPCM to the receiver via HDMI to use the (most likely) superior DACs in the receiver. If you have it decode the codecs in the receiver (i.e., bitstream out of the Blu-...
Gallo 3.1 vs. B&W 804 vs. faber grand piano
Thanks to Goatwuss for defining my B&W snoozer comment. Thin, bright, fatiguing, boring and, yes, dynamic.
Nice try, it's too bad that dynamic and boring are antonyms:http://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/dynamic
Power Plant Premier making sound worse?
Well, those brutal nickel plated outlets on the PPP may have something to do with it.
Gallo 3.1 vs. B&W 804 vs. faber grand piano
I have to concur with Ryder, I used to have B&W 804S speakers and they are anything but laid back. The thing that I loved most about them was the forward presentation.
Local dealer cuts store in half says audio is dead
Usually, I would be with the customer, but I don't know any dealer that will let you in-home audition speakers. It's a logistical nightmare.
The mother of all CES 2009 wrap-ups
Very nice; particularly appreciate the link to dagogo to show what Wadia is doing with its 9 series.
