| Esoteric P5/D5 Opinions please Glad this got bumped back up. I just talked to an actual dealer regarding his impressions of the P-05/D-05 and he felt it was better than the X-01 D2 and, frankly, close enough to the P-03/D-03 that Esoteric might be stealing sales away from itsel... | |
| Surge Protection Avoid. imo, the PS Audio Duet and the larger unit will pretty much ruin a system. At that pricepoint, you might as well leave it all unprotected. | |
| Esoteric P5/D5 Opinions please According to Esoteric Europe they did a head to head and the combo lost out to the X01D2. Based upon the comments, it is likely that it's superior to the X-03, which isn't that hard (although it's a good unit at the pricepoint). At the end of the ... | |
| Transparent Audio Power Cords My experiences don't correspond with yours; I haven't experienced any issue with the PLMM restricting dynamics of my monoblocks. Further, to address the insinuation that it was the "network box" that was limiting dynamics: (1) Transparent doesn't ... | |
| Python Alpha versus VH Audio AirSine As indicated above, the outlet needs to be changed first but the Airsine is as good as the Python Helix imo. | |
| Mark Levinson Where is the Emotion?? While I'm not a huge fan of Levinson's digital work, with that Denon in there, there's no way you can tell anything about what's wrong. Fix your system and then worry about getting it to where you want it to be. | |
| Transparent Audio Power Cords I recently auditioned the Transparent PLMM and PLR in my system and frankly wasn't overly impressed. While they are not bad cables, I found that the PLR was outclassed in every facet of performance by the VH Audio Airsine power cord. Even the PLMM... | |

| New Denon Blu-ray players The 2500 just hit the warehouses a day or so ago so unlikely. Note that it's just a transport and it does not use Realta for upconversion (or "improvement" of Blu-Ray if Denon is to be believed). The full fledged 3800 has been delayed to March and... | |
| Amplifiers for B&W 803D/802D I've found that Ayre amps sound great with B&W. You could get away with a V-5xe with the 803D but you'd really need the V-1xe or preferably, the MX-R, for the 802D (and they definitely don't hurt for the 803D). | |
| Size matters...need smaller speakers fyi, while the Dynaudios are nice (and sometimes very - see Sapphire and particularly the Temptations), they don't use Beryllium in their tweeters currently to my knowledge. | |
| YOUR Favorite Bookshelf/Monitor below $500 Era Design 4. I think they might be slightly over budget but used, well within budget. | |
| Size matters...need smaller speakers Sorry to hear it, I know that you like your speakers very much. I would suggest that you audition the Focal Micro Utopia Be (http://www.focal.tm.fr/catalogue-docs/FR/3/files/355.pdf); from what I heard of the Alto, I think you'll be quite impresse... | |
| WADIA IPOD QUESTION ??? If you use the analogue outs then the ipod's DAC is used. Otherwise, allegedly a pure digital stream is sent to an outboard dac of your choosing through the RCA S/PDIF. | |
| Ipod and quality sound The only way to get anything approaching quality on the ipod is to use wav and one of the newer units like the Wadia iTransport 170 to extract the digital stream and send it to an outboard dac. Even then, the best case scenario is a decent backgro... |
