Bi-amping question
count me as one more in total agreement with Bob reynolds. It's not about more powerful bass at all. It's about deeper bass which does wonderful things as Bob indicates. If you don't want to make this investment, another option may be to upgrade to...
Michell clamp too tight for Spacedeck?
do you mean the collet won't fit easily on the spindle? I have 2 of these clamp and the older one fits loose, the new one initially fit very tight. I had to mash it onto the spindle with moderate force. It loosened up with a little use though. I b...
Bi-amping question
I would absolutely not biamp as you propose. The "bass" driver on the Sttafs is actually a mid-bass driver - a good deal of your mid-range is produced by it - which is exactly what you want tubes for, not a mid or low fi receiver. If you had a SS ...
Quality Live CD / DVD Combo's
Simon and Garfunkel - "Old Friends Live On Stage" is great (if you like them)Neil Young - "Live at Massey Hall" - although the video is poor, but still worth seeing. The Traveling Wilburys - "Collection"Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - "Running Do...
AudioQuest PT6 mounting pattern
Linn arms. The Linn Ittok is a great arm. The AQ arm actually adopts the "Linn Mount" which is a 210mm pivot to spindle distance. Jelco (who made the AQ arms) are also this mounting.
A packing solution for Audiogonitis carriers
I like it. If I use peanuts (rarely do, and never for heavy items) I put them inside a trash bag and seal the bag with tape, then lay these under/over/around the inner box (ie between the inner box and outside box). It does fill the air space and ...
Longest continuous playing songs
Mike Oldfield is famous for long running songs. My favorite is "Ommadawn" which runs for 36+ minutes. Tubular Bells runs 48 minutes.
is there a consensus on too short speaker cables?
ROTF! . . . I guess this turn of context could have been predicted
is there a consensus on too short speaker cables?
thanks for the comments so far. I guess I knew better than to expect a consensus here, but I was looking for a substantial minority. I personally subscribe to Michaelwolff's school of thought. With my current configuration, 6ft simply leaves more ...
Has the internet been good for audio?
for me, absolutely. I was able to do in home demos of many different products over the course of 2 year only because of Audiogon and eBay. I have more system for the $ I spent.
Tube amp with volume control vs. with a proper pre
Personally I wouldn't be without an active pre-amp and I certainly would not want a 2d VC in the chain. Boils down the the active v passive issues discussed here so often.I'm generally of this mindset too, but since I purchased my TAD 60 I've soft...
Intergrated amp for Totem Sttaf
I'd think seriously about a Tube integrated - and while 50-60 w/c would be nice, 30 will do just fine. I had played Sttafs for a short while on a vintage Fisher tube integrated. It was rated at ~20w/ch and it drove the Sttafs very nicely. Unless y...
