HELP Classically ignorant, need vinyl insight
The thing about Wagner is its not nearly as bad as it sounds. Rccc That's Woody Allen, the best comedy is usually in bad taste. My favourite comedy film is "the Producers", by Mel Brooks Who can forget the immortal lyrics " Springtime for Hitler ...
Must Silverlines Boleros,specifically be biwired?
If you look at the Silverline site, it refers to a 6moons review, by someone who went from Sonata's to Bolero's. He said they were different rather than better. From memory, the Boleros were detailed, but smoother than the Sonatas, which seemed to...
211 tube integrated choice
No I have'nt heard the NAF, I think it is more expensive than the Solista and the Mastersound, cheaper. All are from Italy, 845 SET's and have a good rep. They all appear at times on the Gon. Be careful imprting and changing voltage. I bought mine...
HELP Classically ignorant, need vinyl insight
String and melancoly try Strauss Metamorphosen, Albinoni's Adagio, Gorecki. As for music to impale someone with, I don't think we dare tell you. Have you heard Woody Allen's comment about Wagner. He said he loved the music, but every time he heard...
Vinyl vs. top-notch digital
"Now for some of the downside (as if cost is not enough) of vinyl for me. First of all, I hear very few speak to the issue of optimizing multiple sources within a single system. This is turning out to be a problem for me, I suspect I'll be working...
Best Integrated Amp? Help...
Nowone has mentioned the LSA tube/SS hybrid. It is certainly within reach 2nd hand and appears a bit of a steal at it's price point. It has 3 price points of course, same basic design with improved components. The midle Signature version seems the...
Vinyl vs. top-notch digital
Some very interesting views and as normal, Albert Porter summed it up. The main reason you may need vinyl is for recordings not on CD. This would mainly be for classical, some Jazz. There are a wealth of great classical recordings, particularly HM...
What's best low cost 845?
I love my 845 amp, but I agree they do'nt tend to be cheap and you will be looking second hand. Some Italian names to consider, Mastersound, Unison Research and Viva. I have the Viva Solista and it is by a long margin, the best amp I have had in m...
checking platter speed
I am sure it is very unscientific, but if you have a CD and LP of the same music, put them on simultaneously and see if they are together by the end of an LP side. That assumes of course the CD is'nt remastered or otherwise mucked around with.
Speakers/Symposium Rollerblock JR's.
James The acoustic Zen site is'nt clear, but I feel you are correct, the Adagios are MDF. Coincidentally, my previous speakers were Living Voice Avatars. The Adagios are a very big step up in performance
211 tube integrated choice
The Solista is a wonderful amp, been using it for 4 years, but the ouitput valves are 845. It has 211 valves but as rectifiers. They certainly sell under $4500 used.

I use rollerblock juniors and svelte shelves under my floorstanding Acoustic Zen Adagios, on a suspended wooden floor. I was using Herbies big fat dots onto a thin sandstone block before. Both are a great improvement on spikes. I think the Symposi...
Need Some Help Choosing an Integrated Amp
I went back from separates to integrated and never looked back. The Lavardin is a great choice, very transparent, detailed, neutral. It lacks a little base grunt if your a rock fan. I used it for 2 years with 94db Living Voice Avatars to great eff...
Best Recording of Music
chadlniz Alright, you got me, poor use of English and poor description. I should say a recorded base line which can be reproduced successfully on a good system. I should say that Waterfalls is one of the most startling recordings I have heard. The...
