what should i keep, shindo or mcintosh
I disagree with your blanket statement that Shindo amps are only for horn speakers. All the amps are tube but some are single ended some are push pull. The 8-10 watt amps do need a fairly efficient speaker but there are many efficient speakers tha...

I am currently running Reimer Teton full range speakers 95db (4ohm) with Lamm ML2 amps. The Tetons go deep and tight in the bass. Not sure how the Shindo amps may compare with the Lamms but the Masetto has great dynamics in my system.
what should i keep, shindo or mcintosh
Not sure if I agree that the Shindo preamps do not have punch. My Masetto has lots of punch with my Lamm ML2's. It bettered my Wyetech Opal in this regard and I felt the Wyetech was one of the best I had heard.
Galibier questions
I personally would go for the Triplanar and start off with the standard PVC platter. Thom is very good about allowing you to upgrade without penalty if you choose to do so at a later time. I have an earlier galibier/Redpoint and started with the P...
EAR and Shindo
I have no experience with the EAR but really like the phono stage in my Shindo Masetto. Prior to the Masetto I was using a Wyetech Opal (which is a very good line stage) and Artemis PH1 which I felt was one of the best sounding phonostages in the ...
Power cord for Lamm amps
I am using the Lessloss cords on my ML2's. They seem to work very well providing a nice quiet background. I do not think the Lamms are overly sensitive but the sound does change between various cords as with most other equipment.
High efficiency speakers
I am using Reimer Tetons with my ML2's to great effect. They are full range and have a nice tight bottom end with the ML2's.
Upgrade for users of 1/2" mylar belt
For those looking for another color in splicing tape I got some Professional Archive splicing tape for 1" and 2" recording tape from US Recording and it is a nice shade of blue and works very well.
scrubbing lp with discdoctor brush and vpi 16.5
I just ordered the AIVS 3 step process to use in conjunction with my VPI 17F. My thought was to apply the enzyme solution using a hand applicator brush, the cleaning solution via the pump and brush on the VPI and the rinse solution via a hand brus...
A 9 watts SET for the Maggies, Heavenly marriage
When trying an SET you may want to check out the Speltz Zero Autoformers which can effectively double, triple or quadruple the impedence of your speakers making them an easier load.
Tube amp for "difficult" speakers,,,
If you try your speakers with a tube amp you may want to check out the Speltz zero autoformers. The zeros can double the impedence that your amp will see changing your 4 ohm nominal speakers to 8 ohm.
More evidence that LPS are still alive
The article in the cnn.com link about the resurgance in vinyl was in today's business section of the Nashville paper. The word is out.
Speltz/Atma-sphere & Merlins
Philjolet when you are referring to the sound of the speltz wire vs your own were you referring to using the nude transformers or when using the box. I thought using the box would more likely retain the sound of your wire as long as your wire was ...
Lamm ML2.1 Tubes
I prefer the Amperex 12AX7 long plate D getters in my ML2's. These seem to have the best combination of clarity and bass. I liked the midrange of the Telefunken smooth plates but theywere too light in the bass in my system. Unfortunately the Amper...
SET friendly speakers w/ slam?
I get pretty good slamm out of the Reimer Teton's using my Lamm 18 watt SET's. The speakers are 95db and a flat 4 ohms. Reimer says you can go down to 8 watts with these speakers not sure how that may effect slamm though.
