EMT 927 vs. Micro Seiki 5000 or 8000 - different?
Hi Lewm,Belt creep is definitely an issue - rubber belts stretch, with string drive you need something that doesn't - cotton stretches badly, I have found surgical silk doesn't at all. My turntable speed never changes so I only check it once a yea...
Interface: Cartridge-Preamp or Cart-Tonearm?
Arm cartridge has to be more important - a mistracting cartridge can wreck the most valuable component of your system - the records.Back in the glory days of analogue when dealers had multiple turntables/arms as a dealer I found that certain arms ...
EMT 927 vs. Micro Seiki 5000 or 8000 - different?
Raul,Forgot to mention - Final have always done complete bespoke systems. Their cartridge at the time was a rebadged Fidelity research - looks like an FR7. I have both an Ikeda Kiwame and a vintage Dynavector Nova 13D ( Ebony bodied version ) whic...
EMT 927 vs. Micro Seiki 5000 or 8000 - different?
Raul/Dertonarm,One other thing on the power supply on the Final - as well as having separate regulation for 33 & 45 it also has a "torque control". There is definitely an optimum point for sound. With regards to the string drive I cant try a r...
EMT 927 vs. Micro Seiki 5000 or 8000 - different?
Raul - thanks for feedback. The Final was built in the 70's and early 80's - which means Kitamura was using ac sine wave generator power supply 35 years ago - and yet we are barely seeing this today. There seems to have been much colaboration in J...
EMT 927 vs. Micro Seiki 5000 or 8000 - different?
Raul,In the case of the high mass Final Audio that I have, I think the key attributes are speed stability. Most suspended table/rubber belts have wow and pitch problems on piano in my experience. I note that many of the high mass designs produced ...
Gyrodec Best Tonearm
Hi Melanco, I think you are right in upgrading the deck first. For what its worth I ran a Koetsu Black in a Zeta on an Oracle yrs ago and the Zeta/Koetsu is a particularly synergistic match - sum of parts greater than the whole. This may give you ...
Got the table now I need a good arm and cart combo
Years ago I ran a Rock for a while. I removed the trough and ran an Eminent Technology air bearing arm with a Shure V15 Type 5 - actually sounded pretty good. ET's can be had quite cheap if you look.
EMT 927 vs. Micro Seiki 5000 or 8000 - different?
Dertonam,Just to add my 2 cents - turntables owned - Linn, Pink Triangle, Sota, Oracle, Well Tempered, Roksan, Garrard 301 - current turntable used and much preferred is the Final Labs Parthenon - this is like a micro seiki steroids. It is in fact...
Gyrodec Best Tonearm
To Nandric,Advice has a c not an s.I am impressed that your advice is much better. At least I run my tonearms actually attached to the turntable.Cheers.
Gyrodec Best Tonearm
Instead of upgrading your tonearm, have you considered upgrading the Gyrodec with updated power supply/bearing/platter ? You might get a bigger return from power supply upgrades and or an overhaul of the Zeta by Audio Origami - bearing check and r...
Does anyone have these Rega TTs?
Friend had P5 with power supply and rega cartridge. Very well balanced and musical. Upgraded to the Groovetracer subplatter - this was a big improvement. Then went to Shelter 501 cartridge. Overall this was an excellent all round package. AB'd P5/...
Decca cartridge experiences
Hi, I've set up quite a few deccas. The most successful arms were the Zeta and the Dynavector arms. We used to get the cartridges rebuilt by the Garrot Bros who have since departed. Each cartridge was different, the best I heard was a Decca Maroon...
Which monitors for my tube system in a large room?
Compact floor speakers - Tannoy Kensington's are superb and well suited to the Leben.
