putting speaker vertical or horizontal?
Kr4...I understand what you say, but it doesn't always seem to work that way. Suppose you had two drivers spaced 6 feet apart...wouldn't they (ideally) image as one driver between them? Now, put the tweeter at that spot. As a point of interest, ju...
putting speaker vertical or horizontal?
Pabelson...Why don't you just tell us why MTM speakers don't work well horizontal, instead of citing links we can't use?
putting speaker vertical or horizontal?
The usual explanations involving dispersion characteristics don't explain why vertical souns better even when you are listening straight on to the speaker. Here is another theory...In the typical speaker the Woofer and Tweeter are lined up vertica...
Dedicated power, long power cords - waste of time?
.Contrary to what Zenieth states, there is doubt. I suggest that you get a long (40 ft?) heavy duty extension cord and plug it into an outlet near your electric service box. Turn off every electrical device on the same fuse/breaker as that outlet....
Why a "digital" coax cable?
A cable with the proper impedance will transmit a less distorted binary (ON/OFF) waveform, but, so long as the receiver can still distinguish ON from OFF there will be no problem. Component video, which also uses RCA plugs, is another story. Even ...
Future of this hobby?
Jax2...Thanks for the tip. We will see if Topsy Turvy is in the NetFlix library.
Future of this hobby?
.The hobby was different back in the early fifties when I got involved. "Involved" is the right word. We had to wire up our own electronics, and design and build our loudspeaker (just one of them). It was a "hands on" quest for sonic perfection. A...
The new guy has a question....
I assume that the Sunfire SS Processor does its thing in the digital domain, which means that, if you put in an analog signal it is digitized, processed, and reconverted to analog for output. This would mean that the Sunfire A/D and D/A hardware i...
A simple question from the new guy ....
Look (or in this case Listen) before you leap. There are some Audiogon folk who vehemently deny that any significant LP surface noise exists, and there are others, like me, who find that surface noise, to use your words, "drives me nuts". The only...
jolida issues? first tube amp
There is one good thing about a "mass market" product...most of the bugs have been worked out before you get yours. Low production products, whether they be audio amps or balistic missile guidance systems cannot get the extent of pre-release evalu...
Determining polarity? and Modulus3A question also
If you can't hear any difference due to polarity, (which doesn't surprise me) why bother?
Maggie MG12 Tweaks
Based on my experience with MG1.6, your urge to tweek something would be best accomodated by replacing the iron core inductor of the crossover with an air core inductor. Leave the stock capacitors in place...they ain't bad.
SACD - Dying already?
Robm321...Vynil??? I guess you mean Vinyl, aka LPs.Kings claim to rule by divine right (until deposed). I support the republic of DVDA, the people's choice.
Future of DVD-A
If you already have a player for DVDA, why not buy a few and see what you think? My sonicly best discs are DVDA. I think that DVDA offers more features than SACD, and the PCM format is more mainstream than DSD which gives it a better chance of sur...
Speaker cable gauge and amplifier power
Ridgestreetaudio...Lots of luck!
