Best Cables for around $500
I'm really impressed with the $150 Stager Solid Silver from DAC to amp.  No risk trial, so give it a shot. It's amazing the difference it made in my rig.
Linn 24 Bits Of Christmas
I was listening to their free 24 bit Christmas  album from last year when I saw your post. Great stuff.  Thanks.
New Forum Format Sucks
Interesting that the page header still has sharpness and color saturation, then you have faded pastels and thin font below as the the improvement.  Not as eye friendly to me.
Folk/Rock choices that are well recorded
I'm with Rcprince in the Byrds being a favorite. I bought some super-deal 5 CD set of their top albums on Amazon, but the sound quality really sucked. Are there any good remasters of Byrds albums? If you like those harmonies and format, the Roches (...
Ideal Cheap Low-Watt Amp for Martin Logan Quest
Stephen, Granted, you have a difficult speaker to match with a low cost amp, but I can offer a positive note on the speakers. I bought mine from a dealer who had a used pair, along with a used pair of Apogee Duetta's. We spent most of the day comp...
What vintage speaker might you use today
Advents, Scotts, and KLH boxes were acoustic suspension, and I miss the sound of that bass. Having bass leak out a port or a passive radiator always seemed kinda sloppy.
Ideal Cheap Low-Watt Amp for Martin Logan Quest
Do you have the original Quests or the Quest-Z? I had (still in basement) the original and they are a tough impedance curve, and may need quite a lot of oomph from the amp. I tried the Mark Levinson ml-27, which sounded wretched. I tried a Classe'...
why do people feel the need to buy expensive cable
Referring to OP, I always assumed it was a natural consequence of the 'phile in audiophile, where the audio system becomes the object of obsession, love and affection. You give it roses instead of petunias, and if you've got the loot, you must giv...

A month of tweaks
Thanks, WW. Your writeup is impressive.

Willie, oh oh :-)The power switch on my Avatar is getting flaky, so it's soon off to VAC where they promise to look under the hood for any available improvements, so that will be my next "tweak."Thanks for the map ahead. You're right, I'm really f...
I s Benchmark the "Benchmark"
I like my DAC1. It sounds better now that I use USB from JRiver instead of sourcing from a CD player, but there could be many reasons for that. I haven't tried much else, but I feel confident that Benchmark gets it right and is a great neutral uni...
Why does most new music suck?
Lowrider57, One of the interesting aspects of the formula is a hook played every seven seconds or less to keep the brain from turning away, which means the product is formulated more for the sensibilities of Skinner Pigeons, rather than tunefulnes...

I'll do the tube pins, and see if I can reach any appliance plugs-- might try the Clear Day silver speaker cables.  The power switch on the Avatar is  getting flaky, so maybe VAC has some tweaks to it if I send it in.  Thanks!
Why does most new music suck?
Whoops- meant Sweden. The book is, The Song Machine, about the industrialization of songwriting and music production. Good book.
