Vandersteen 2CE Signature Speakers
The idea that a speaker plays jazz and rock well, but not classical is crazy. The requirements for a loudspeaker for all music is the same: "play it as accurately as possible with as little damage as possible for the money". I don’t fully agree, b...
Is this MQA news a big deal?
Find that 4k, streaming, and MQA all share a single purpose: copyright control.I'm no fan of MQA, in that I cannot tell it does anything better, but copyright control (aka Digital Rights Management or DRM) is not one of the problems. MQA recording...
Infinity cs 3009
They are only expensive relative to other kits. The parts are very similar to those used in a $20k Sony speaker system. Compared to that, this kit is a bargain! :) Best,E
Does anyone leave their amp and preamp on all the time?
So my last out of town trip, I turned off my DAC, preamp and amps off for two days. Sounded pretty hard for about 48 hours. This trip I was out longer, and turned off only the DAC. When I came back it seemed just fine immediately. My preamp is a Pa...

I encourage you to build a modern kit instead, there are many great one's. In about the form factor you are thinking of, I really like the components in this PSB kit:https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/3-way-speaker-kits/scan-speak-revelator-b13...
We give up perspective to avoid tone controls
@almarg and @mapman Interesting! Maybe this is the year I finally figure out how to do this for free. :) I think about this project from time to time, and then I remember that I am just not a big fan of old Thiel or any Vandersteen speakers. Wish ...
We give up perspective to avoid tone controls
This is potentially the most important thread that could have possibly been started on any forum anywhere in the HEA world. Thanks for your kind words, Michael, but I feel like this is probably just covering old ground. :) Best,E
We give up perspective to avoid tone controls
Kind of related to this, was the old Theta Casanova. Like the Casablanca, the Casanova was really an all-digital preamp. All analog signals were converted to digital first. Then DSP was used to do bass management. And honestly, that was a great li...
Bi-wiring to 4 and 8Ω speakers
So I've been doing some reading. Those speakers rely on an active EQ circuit, the KUBE, that adjusts the signal levels before the amplifier. Of course, this would make the resulting output quite unusable for other speakers. https://www.stereophile...
If cost was no factor, what system would you build as your main audio system?
There must be something wrong with me, but prices no longer impress me at all. I honestly can't think of a single loudspeaker over $10k which impresses me all that much. I can think of some really beautiful looking speakers, but speakers which mak...
We give up perspective to avoid tone controls
@nonoise And this is kind of the problem. I mean, we give up any alleged "damage" for the sake of purity. Aren't we a little obsessed, to the detriment of our actual enjoyment and experience? Best,E
If cost was no factor, what system would you build as your main audio system?
Besides the room and room treatment, a pair of Conrad Johnson Premiere Twelves, and matching preamp. I would still build my own speakers. I would invest in a pair of subs. While I like JL Audio, if money is no object, I dislike their reliability, ...
Bi-wiring to 4 and 8Ω speakers
Hi Dbphd,Sounds messy.  Parallel impedance divides. When speaker makers do this, the crossovers prevent impedance dividing. That is, the tweet, midrange and woofer don't seem to be in parallel to the amplifier's sense of impedance (more or less)....
High End Reproduction is back
Note the rear panel has a power, XLR and volume control for a rear tweeter. So these are at least partially powered speakers. I must say, I like the idea of a powered subwoofer, especially if it contains digital EQ, as well as a rear tweeter with ...
"Bookshelf" speakers designed to be placed near the wall behind them?
Crystal Cable Minissimo Diamonds for sure, but pricey. I think they make other much less expensive models. Oh, and to heck with JA's review of them. Best,E
