| Need suggestions for streaming files to my stereo @williewonka Yes, to all devices. It's just that no wifi device should be single band anymore. Dual band has been around for several years. Just something to watch out for. I have a SB Touch which I am using, but just added a 5GHz repeater to help... | |
| Inherited 21 piece of vintage McIntosh and need help building a system Make no mistake! That is a fabulous bit of kit. :) I just think the speakers may be the one thing to start upgrading, and then decide what you want to keep. That's a full stereo store's worth of gear. Best,E | |
| Need suggestions for streaming files to my stereo One reason not to use Bluesound: Seems to be single band WiFI. If you can use ethernet, no problem. But most apartment dwellers are saturated with WIfi signals in the 2.4GHz band. 5GHz is far more reliable. Wired Ethernet even more so. Best,E | |
| Can any stereo amp be bridged to mono ? Possibly. You cannot bridge amps with balanced outputs. Assuming your amp is single ended, then yes, you could do so but whether you could do so safely is another issue. Bridging doubles the voltage at the speaker inputs, which would double the cu... | |
| Inherited 21 piece of vintage McIntosh and need help building a system I should also mention, speakers are the first to go. Surrounds rot or break, crossover caps get too old. Unless you are absolutely in love with any of them, I would sell them first, get speakers you really like, then see what electronics you want ... | |
| Inherited 21 piece of vintage McIntosh and need help building a system Maybe start with the speakers? Then you can listen for yourself, and see how much cabling and other issues you are willing to live with. :) For instance, you could make a really nice system with the integrated amp alone, a nice music streamer and... | |
| Speaker placement behind the screen It is hard to tell without speaking to the OP, as some one who has worked in motion picture sound I have some thoughts:Take care of the basicsHorns are positioned facing the middle of the audience, not the back wall and ceiling. Measure your speak... | |
| New Surrounds On Wall +1 Auxinput is right. The original surround speakers were on the sides. Only later on was a rear surround introduced. Of course, what matters is your own enjoyment, so I find myself putting them to the sides, but maybe 1-2' behind my listening pos... | |
| Speaker placement behind the screen Hi OP, I'll send you a message so we can chat direclty. | |
| Mini dsp what's the deal Just wanted to recap. The recipe for ideal bass is usually room acoustics PLUS equalization. The two combined are a much better recipe than either alone. The bass traps provide an energy sink, so the room does not resonate indefinitely, and the EQ... | |
| Mini dsp what's the deal Hi OP,Yes, running miniDSP from a second set of outputs is ideal, so long as those outputs are after your volume control. Best,E | |
| Mini dsp what's the deal Hi mofojo,It is definitely fun to play with. I use it for my HT sub and it's perfect. When necessary I also use it on my center channel. First, EQ's work best with bass traps and room acoustics already in place. If you have that, then EQ's in com... | |
| High quality high pass filtering for speakers? Should say it also depends on what you want to fix. If you want to minimize your main amplifier's output, you want an active crossover before the amp. If you want to perfect the integration between your sub --> room and sub --> satellites, a... | |
| High quality high pass filtering for speakers? Your comments about a good sub, well integrated are not wrong. So, no high pass filter is a brick wall. If your 2-way is sealed, and you add a 2nd order filter you end up with a total 4th order. Pretty steep, 24dB/octave. That is how THX attempts ... | |
| Ineed some help with a simple math equation Also important to understand how they eat power. Are they low impedance ? Difficult to drive due to high phase angle or low Z in the bass? You may indeed need a very solid amp, but not necessarily need all those rated watts at 8 ohms.Best,E |
