A twist on "Your absolute best..."
Good post Tireguy; I also made my own double-wide stereo stand-- concrete filled corner posts, British Tenderfeet, 200+ lbs. etc. I want my previous post back so I too can select my stereo rack-- thanks for the reminder. Cheers. Craig
A twist on "Your absolute best..."
Hi Trelja; when I was a kid (45-50 yrs. ago), my folks had an Edison windup phonograph in the attic, complete with a stack of near 1/4" thick records. We got to play it once in awhile, and all I'll say is that hifi has come a long way since then! ...
Blind Listening Tests?
Dtittle; I think in my first response I spelled your name wrong-- sorry, and I looked closer this time. Thanks for your response-- the equipment you have certainly indicates that you are "one of us". I mentioned critical listening skills-- well, t...
New Age, Neo-Celtic, World Beat Music
Sean; hard rock or metal generally not "my thing". I do like "Dead Can Dance". Where does that fit? I'd like to thank everyone above who made recommendations, and especially Tao who had quite a list. I copied the thread. Thanks. Craig.
Blind Listening Tests?
Hi Dlittle; A well written thread, but you don't tell us what experience you have had with sighted testing, or what your stereo system consists of? Respectfully, I would ask you to consider this question from the perspective of the sighted test, e...
absolute best component you ever owned
Hi Kelly; No bets here. I'll just add that the McCormack goes to SMC for full upgrade in March, the 360S DAC is fully upgradable, and the 37 Transport, besides sounding great, has permanent disc/track programming-- a feature I'd hate to be without...
absolute best component you ever owned
......it's a toss-up between my McCormack DNA-2DX amp and Levinson 360S DAC. These are each incredibly musical pieces of equipment, and along with a Levinson 37 Transport, are going to be permanent pieces in my system. Craig.
Wanted leads on blues, blues rock folk
Hi Lwin; I can strongly recommend Terry Evans-- his CDs have been Stereophile Mags recording of the month a couple of times, but don't let that turn you off. It's great music. Young blues/rockers that are favorites are Susan Tedeschi, Sue Foley, a...
New Age, Neo-Celtic, World Beat Music
Sean; I don't know what you mean by "harder" Celtic influenced music. As a generality, I don't care for the Jigs and Reels in traditional Celtic folk music, but really like the ballads. Craig
Top three most over underrated eqpmt??
I would say the McCormack DNA-2 or 2DX are the most under rated amps in the world. It seems that a huge number of DNA.5 and DNA-1s were sold, but ulike these smaller McCormacks, the DNA-2s were never reviewed by a major mag. and they were being pr...
New Age, Neo-Celtic, World Beat Music
Thanks for all the suggestions so far-- I'm making a list. Craig
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
Prfont; I agree with your position, ie let your ears be the judge. I do think that improved, up to date implementation of the up (or over) sampling technology, as well as improved "handling" of the signal in the analog domain is responsible for th...
New tubes every year...or every five? ?
Hi Cw; I have a Sonic Frontiers Line 2 with 6 Sovtek 6922 tubes. I typically listen 4-5 hours/day, and also broke in some equipment using the Line 2-- leave it in standby the rest of the time. After about 16-18 months, my system gradually was soun...
What is the meaning of a true audiophile
A favorite quote of mine on this subject was by David 99: "audiophiles are neurotic, two channel, sweetspot loners". I really think that quote showed a lot of humorous insight. If I got it wrong David, please feel free to chew me out:>) Cheers....
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
.......yes, purchase is spelled purchase, not perchase-- sorry.
