Deja Vu All Over Again
VERY sexy car, agree. What about the previous model (xk 120). I fell in love with both as a kid. Never got over them
Music for "Tough Times"
Judit -- which version do you recommend for the Duet?My nominations for... ...music to jump off a bridge: Mahler's Songs of the Earth with Ferrier....music to keep you off the bridge: "Never Get Out of These Blues Alive" JL Hooker
Time for everbodys Top Ten list.....
My TOP list tends to change by the week (or according to my moods...).The latest specials (random order):* Brahms 1st piano concerto, A. Curzon* Mahler Das lied von erde/Walter, Ferrier* Mahler 5th Symphony/ Barbirolli* M Davis "Bitches Brew"* JL ...
Krell Amps vs others
As above, regarding "clas A" & how much of it we really get. Other than Bear's Symphony1, another amp that runs in A for a long time is the Symphonic Line Kraft 250 (stereo & monos: the latter offer ~250 A instantaneous @ peaks). BUT, like...
Short notes on Sibelius Seven Symphonies
Hi Tweeker, I'm interested in yr appraisal of Jarvi/Stockholm. My reference is Barbirolli/Halle for all symphonies & I second your commendation of Segerstam/Danish RSO. Indeed, in certain passages I prefer Segerstam to Barbirolli.BTW, Segersta...
B & W N802's Vs Revel Studios Vs. Mezzo Utopias
Goone, IMO none of the two speakers you mention get the prize for "warmth". I would EXPECT the Mezzo to sound better in clarity & bass with your Pass -- BTW, JM has used Alephs to check their speakers... As Brandon above, I too find that bigge...
Possible to run a turntable direct to an amp?
ANY phono equipped with a volume control will do. The rest, i.e. choosing WHICH phono, is up to your musical tastes! Cheers
Will my QUADs drive Spendor S100s?
The 100s are not easy to drive to tonally correct results. That said, I once drove them with a 30W DNM -- it was OK at reasonable listening levels. I do think bi-amping (mid+high/ bass) rather than tri-wiring is a good idea.I assume there is no wa...
B & W N802's Vs Revel Studios Vs. Mezzo Utopias
The Mezzo Utopia are also nice speakers... but, see Ksales above!
Tannoy?
Tannoy are quite reputed for their speakers. Apart from their Westminster, Canterbury, etc (I remember ogling over as a kid) they now have a series called TD(?) with dual-concentric drivers (mid-bass) and hi-rez tweets on them. I heard one of thes...
Micromega CD players? Any reliable models?
The Solo, Duo, Duo cd3, and the Trio, were all reliable (as far as I know). Certain Stages needed some kind of mod (factory supplied) & worked OK after... I had a Trio for some time; the transport was, indeed, excellent (& yes, the Trio wa...
CAT SL-1 questions
I'll try to answer some of the questions: The Signature has even less noise than the previous models. The Ultimate has a better sounding phono than the Signature. The line from the 3 onwards is very good IMO, with dynamics and musicality winning o...
So you're an audiophile - are you also a musician?
Bishopwill notes: "...What I and another classically trained musician in the room heard was a mediocre clarinet player with intonation all over the place, lousy articulation, and no sense of correct performance practice for Weber..."Quite so. THAT...
Deja Vu All Over Again
Rockvirgo, you let go a XKE 3,8? I can identify with your plight...I'm still mourning a a pair of 15-ohm Rogers LS3/5A, early serial number...
music , mind , thought and emotion
I second the malt. Another note, to repeat what I have written elsewhere; I astart enjoying music the most when my cognitive part intervenes the least. Then, I listen to the music rather than pondering on HOW am I perceiving/listening to the music...
