Capturing the MUSIC; a furtive cause? What R We...
Interesting you should mention that, as Boyk mentions TEMPO as one of the qualities often missing when we listen to music at home. The result is that we would dismiss the PERFORMANCE as being under par -- when in fact, it's the loss of detail due ...
The most detailed speaker cable??
Dunno really. One thing one could do is spectrum analyse what is on the source matl, what exits the final amplification stage, and compare to measurement of what's coming out of the spkrs, I suppose. I guess most people would probably just sit &am...
Our we Lazy?
I own a tube pre Actually, Satch, tubes are very good at amplifying small (source) signals. Eg, a good tube riaa is hard to beat. But, they do need high voltages, buffering output impedances, care with noise, etc, that complicate matters. Oh well!
The most detailed speaker cable??
why don't you measure the Nordost cables so you have some idea about what you are comparing? But, Resbeck, those wires -- when attached -- are part of the circuit. Why measure them outside the circuit with a dummy load only?
Do materials alter frequencies and speed?
What is the resonant frequency of earwax :>)Dunno, but there's a pole s/where around 15kHz if I remember correctly. With your "direct-line" method, maybe we can dispense with the riaa correction altogether...
How do you deal with vibration?
Theaudiotweak sez:vibration control in a component will mean that it will draw less current than one with improperly implemented vibration control or none at all. It all starts with self induced losses within the componentIt's interesting you thin...
Simon Yorke S9 with a Schroeder arm ???
I have some idea. First, however, may I confirm that you own one of the very best analogue rigs available. Simply put, the performance level of yr S9 + Allaerts is outstanding, a reference set-up -- to paraphrase Dgad above, you are at a point of ...
Do materials alter frequencies and speed?
In fact, there IS a very simple cable wire experiment. Take an appropriate length of enameled pure copper wire (~16g), cut into four identical pieces, scrape off enamel at the 8 ends, and use that wire to connect amp->spkrs. There should be a p...
The most detailed speaker cable??
Let's try to interpret (rather than be sick). What Rsbeck seems to be claiming is that a connecting wire, in and of itself, cannot be "detailed" or otherwise because a wire passively connects components and only carries a signal (I'd also add the ...
The most detailed speaker cable??
How *does* one solve a non-existant problemI'd start by being adventurous: bypass the IC connectors and hard-wire b/ween components. Not easy to do when using expensive commercial equipment, I know! After it's not only the wire that's conducting it...
So my wife says to me this morning
Sound to me like you just earned yourself some extra cash for new LPs. (sell the VPI)Pretend the Rega is a pre-industrial design coffee grinder. Or place a photo of a Ferrari in front of it. Cheers
eAR 1001 power amp questions.
It was the 1001. Cheers!
why does preamp improve sound quality?
An attenuator (passive) doesn't control anything but the volume function (voltage usually). In a passive attenuator, it's the source component that effectively drives the load via the volume control + connecting wires. If one has a source with a s...
High quality transports
Just as side note -- but aren't there only 3-4 manufacturers of generic transports out there (Philips, Sony, Teac, CEC maybe)? Why not determine which manufacturer is more to yr liking and then short-list the brands using that transport?I, for one...
eAR 1001 power amp questions.
As far as a) is concerned, I wouldn't worry BUT send the card particulars by FAX -- not e-mail. b) Can't say -- sales tax + s/thing surelyAs to sound: I only heard one model and I can't tell which one -- 501 or 1001 -- by looking at their site. I ...
