| PC/Squeezebox v Mac Mini Mini facts:* remote is IR* no fan and a quiet hard drive but can be a bit noisy playing a CD, but not a problem if they're on a hard drive.* you have to have a mouse and keyboard hooked up whether you use them or not or it won't past self test* th... | |
| Good way to dampen tonearm? Semi, follow the link in my post above and it discusses the resonance inherent in everything and why it is important to have the resonance of the cartridge/arm combo at the proper frequency. There are arms made of wood and carbon fiber BTW.http://... | |
| Good way to dampen tonearm? Some shrink tubing has glue on the inside that is activated by the heat. If you try that make sure you get the kind without glue. It would also be hard to cut off without scratching the arm. | |
| Good way to dampen tonearm? I think that is a very bad idea especially since this would be permanent. What if it sounded like crap? You would be buying a new arm. DAP makes a foam that can be cleaned up with water, but the other stuff (Great Stuff?) is polyurethane based, it... | |
| What to do with 1,200 CDs I don't need As I go through ripping my collection I realize the last 2 posts are correct. I can't recall the last time I listened to many CDs, if ever, so I skipped over them. This is especially true with some box sets.Q. How many times can you sit down and l... | |
| Using a phonstage to by pass a preamp ? Narrod is correct, Uru975 may or may not be. It depends on the total gain of the system. A phono stage with low gain into an amp with low gain driving inefficient speakers might not work, but there are many combinations that would. | |
| The basics of PC audio Thanks Steve. I sent a note to Gordon and I'll try to contact Swenson, but everything I've read points to Swenson being correct.I think the best solution is a wireless USB device server feeding a USB DAC. That way you aren't tied down to any singl... | |
| The basics of PC audio Good link Steve, perhaps you could clear up a few points.Did the Creative Audigy 2 NX turn out to be asynchronous? I am guessing not as you have chosen others to modify.Basically the DAC has a single digital USB input. USB unlike SPDIF is bidirect... | |
| can i transport apple lossless between pc & mac? When I bought my Mac Mini I asked the geek at the Apple store about this and he told me to use Apple formatting. He said that even though the Mac would read/write fat32 that "eventually" it would start to have problems and I would lose data. I hav... | |
| can i transport apple lossless between pc & mac? How is the drive formatted? As I understand it a PC can't read a drive formatted for Apple but an Apple can read some PC drives. My local Mac dealer tells me that a Mac can read/write PC formatted drives but for the long term it will have problems.... | |
| The basics of PC audio Once again, I am no expert on DACs, but I am pretty sure that relocking the data is not the standard. All DACs do not reclock the data??? I am open to any opposing view.I do agree that with lossy formats it really doesnt make a whole lot of diffe... | |
| I'm thinking that youngsters are getting burned . Mr. Tennis, I do have a sense of humor and take things as lightly as they warrant. I may be wrong but from looking through your other threads you seem to enjoy taking unconventional positions just to see what responses you can get. Some call this ... | |
| The basics of PC audio I don't understand. He says the jitter on the digital output is due to the fact it has to reconstruct the clock from the asynchronous data it is being fed. OK, but why does he say the point is moot when using the digital out? Doesn't the digital d... | |
| The basics of PC audio I'm not disputing it but I've never heard the concerns about jitter from these type of devices (Express, Squeezebox, etc) Do you guys have more info or links to some? |
