Can you suggest sources? Last time I ordered Supraphon from B&N I received one of the 5 CDs I ordered...
Recommendations of CD player for my system
Socrates has a good point. Be careful of the used (Meridians) - word has it that they are not quite as reliable as one would want - you might be buying someone else's headaches. The stock SONY players sound good, and the mods I pointed out are sen...
Low end TT vs. Hi end CD
Unfortunately all DD turntables - except for Denons - "cog" and thus in the ears of many are not acceptable as a true high end solution. But they are very convenient and come up to speed quickly.
Recommendations of CD player for my system
Keep the Rega and get a new SACD player, maybe a moded one from www.sacdmods.com.
Question for Velvet Underground fans
I saw the Underground perform at a former church in Philly in 1968. Very intimate venue. Lots of White Light/Heat stuff. It was a great but bizarre performance. I can't remember if Nico was with the group or not, but I recall a female drummer with...
Tube amps you have heard with Quad 989
Judit, I used the 63s for years with the Pass Aleph series with great results. Other correspondents have commented on the similarity of sound of the Plinius with the Aleph, perhaps with better bass.
Will our MC for the festivities gain the stage?
4yanx, I think the table you were given is an acceptable minimum for those who strive for lowest noise in the phono stage. I myself would want even more gain if the noise floor of the phono gain circuit was up to it. Matching gain, impedance and n...
Comments on Clearaudio Aurum Beta S
Could it be a defective cartridge or lead? All the cartridges I have tried in my Linn setup (except EARLY Grados) have been dead quiet with standard connections and grounding. FWIW - what does your dealer say?
Tube amps you have heard with Quad 989
As a longtime QUAD owner I am glad they are back on a good path with their new production. Just goes to show the necessity of system matching and experience with real music. Judit, do they do that funky thing in the midrange with pianos that you p...
Your 5 Fav Rock Concerts
In no order:1968 Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Soft Machine, Janis/Big Brother, and Chambers Brothers at Flushing Meadows, NY. This was on a revolving stage - Janis almost fell down several times. They would start it moving anytime, no warning.1968 Jeffers...
Advice Pls: Tact v PS Audio v Spectral
FWIW, I tried a pair of bridged Evos on A3s - as you know they are "digital". I felt they were acceptable but did not have the life of the best tube amps or the Pass Aleph series. Email member "celebrat" - he used a similar combo with a Tact or so...
Matching Sumiko SHO and Pass Labs Aleph Ono
Run a balanced cable (XLR to XLR) from the Ono to the Alpeh P. This should give you 6 DB more gain, and probably a better sound to boot. Don't worry about turning the volume control all the way up on the P, you can't hurt anything.
Best phono stage for $1500....
I second the Aleph Ono. It is quiet, flexible, musical, and has gain out the wazoo (up to 76db) to accomodate everything from a Decca to a very low output coil. It would mate great with a tube line pre.
grainy sounding high end system
1.I've heard your front end (player/DAC) in other systems and it is very bright and sibilant. Since others may think it is ok, I can only say what I heard in a hi-rez system; could these components be variable? I would explore other players perhap...
