better quality "Y" adapter needed
Monster makes an inexpensive "T" available at www.audioadvisor.com. Jerry Raskins sells a similar product at www.needledoctor.com. A number of high end cable manufacturers will make you a custom "Y" at higher prices, and you have to wait for them ...
OK.......I need more info on the Shelter 901......
I believe the Shelter 501 was imported into the U.S. and distributed by Sounds of Silence under the Crown Jewel name a few years ago. It got relatively favorable reviews from HP and Mikey.
Anyone remember the "Tice Clock" controversy?
You are all probably aware that Tice makes power conditioners and power cords. All products are treated with their proprietary TPT process. I own a couple of their power conditioners and power cords, and they're well made, fine looking products. I...
OK.......I need more info on the Shelter 901......
Call David Lewis at David Lewis Audio in Philadelphia, phone (215) 725-4080. He is in touch with the importer of Shelter cartridges.
Budget system not up to expectations...
Did you do the demo where your system is or in the garage? (I'm thinking about a possible bad room interaction.) Try swapping out the Denon and Analysis cables back to the Onkyo with lamp cord. See if it improves back to what you remember from the...
ONE shot to show off your System's Stuff
I heard Hugh Masakela's Coal Train (off the Hope album) used to great effect at this year's Stereophile show in the Gamut/Pipedreams room and the Vyger/Calix room. I had to go out and buy the CD.
Preamp noise now
It is actually possible that you have a buzz from inadequate grounding which might have been solved by one of your source components, i.e., the preamp might have been properly grounded before via the interconnect through a properly grounded source...
Electrician Coming Over What to Do?
I suggest considering a home surge protector, standard cable in the walls, 30 amp circuits, and hi grade sockets, to be followed by audiophile power cords and a hi end power conditioner.
Potential problem with sale.
I think it's the buyer's responsibility to know about what he is buying. The seller is responsible for the item's condition, not its functionality. I bought a Meridian 598 with progressive scan and didn't discover that it didn't have outputs compa...
Class A amplifier choice, need suggestions
My favorite is the Pass X600 monoblock. It operates in class A up to 100 watts continuous (200 watts peak), then shifts into class AB mode. While it doesn't go up to the X1000's 1000 watt max, its 600 watts of rated continuous power is more than e...
MIT Love 'em or Hate 'em
I tried a pair of MIT interconnect cables with network boxes some time ago and was disappointed. Compared to Audioquest Diamond, the MITs had a quieter high end, and the music sounded much less dynamic. After a few hours, I developed the impressio...
What's your favorite speaker finish?
I used to get walnut to match my furniture. After I moved, I got cherry to match the house's cabinets and shelves. More recently, as I've spent more on speakers, I've let my wife pick the finish to help enhance WAF, and we've gotten Morado on Thie...
Minimonitor Choice: Proac 1sc vs. Totem Model 1s
I used ProAc 1SCs with Cardas Golden Cross to tame the highs. This worked well with my Aleph 3. The midrange was smooth, even, and imaged well. The bass rolled off in the mid-bass, perhaps sooner than the Totems which I haven't owned but have audi...
Remote Control Problems :-
Make sure your remote's infrared transmission lenses and your preamps sensor surface are clean. Also, too much ambient infrared light can obscure or confuse the preamps reception of the remote's signal. I assume your preamp is never starved for co...
Taming/Damping Electrostat Backwave
Rives notes an important point about the SL3s -- their curved surface is like a part of a cylinder, the focal area is really a near-vertical line where the axis of the cylinder would be. Consider putting an effective mid-high frequency absorber li...
