6L6 vs EL34
I've heard 6L6's are more prone to ringing. I'm not a tube guy and I forget where I heard that. Maybe somebody else has something to say about that.
Amp suggestions(?) for Focal Aria 906
Freediver clearly isn’t familiar with those speakers. I power 936’s with a 32 watt class A amp and I’m only doing that because it’s push-pull with 32V rails. You will melt your tweeters with distortion trying to get solid volume out of those with ...

Na.... There's not really some direct, unequivocal correlation between excursion and distortion like so many want to believe in order to justify giant drivers. Making a more linear motor is an easier task than building a bigger, stiffer, properly ...

@prof That's not a horrible approach as long as you can make sure the resonance is of a high quality factor.
Amp suggestions(?) for Focal Aria 906
35 wpc is plenty in theory. They might not sound their best with that amp, but that depends on what you like. 15wpc is too little. If you crunch the numbers to get good volume out of those, 15wpc doesn't cut it.

I don't think you're very far off in your assessment, however, I think that overlooks the strangeness in the port alignment. The 3 woofers don't appear to behave identically and I think that may be how they negate the more obvious artifacts of ove...

"A large part of the upper-bass peak apparent in this graph will be due to the inevitable exaggeration of the nearfield measurement technique."He doesn't note that exaggeration being part of the measurement technique??? Yes, he does. He also seeme...

@mmeysarosh I don't agree with your assessment at all, and neither did RD at Stereophile. If you'd read the measurements instead of just glossing over them for a chart you'd have noticed JA pointing out that the measurements weren't accurate due t...

I'm not familiar with 946's. If you mean 948's, they certainly can overwhelm a smallish to average size room. That's exactly why I didn't get them. You could probably overwhelm a small room with 936's too. The exact same things can be observed wit...
6 ohm speakers with 4/8 ohm amplifier
Watts are an abstract value, a product of volts and amps. There's no such thing as an amp that drives watts, nor is there is there such a thing as a speaker driven by watts. Speaker power and impedance ratings are just about useless for telling wh...

So.... I should understand that the sentiment here is to save $6000 and just buy 936's that'll blow them clean out of the water? Because that's pretty much what I'm getting here.

Big planers do a good job, but I'm not completely sold on that approach having used large dipoles AMTs. The sound is certainly spacious and less localized, but big radiating surfaces have odd artifacts and I feel that the reflected sound can lend ...

Yeah... I should. I haven't had time to track a pair down. Kinda learning to be my own lawyer. I just can't believe what a few of you say based on all the other glowing things that completely contradict you guys.
Focal Kanta No.2
Defensive? Na! I only seem defensive if you're feeling butt hurt! And yeah, I pretty much think the opinions of amateurs are useless, especially when they radically contradict the published words of people who make a living expressing their opinio...

When a couple of amateurs start making statements the wildly contradict my experience with similar products and professional evaluations, I don't give those opinions much credit.
