Record Clam, yes or no
Rega says not to use clamps with their tables, one of the reasons being because of the extra weight. My dealer has done several tests with customers who all thought it sounded better without the clamp, and that has been my experience as well.
Help buying a television
I have a 50" plasma at about 9', which is the recommended distance. I think you would want at least 60" if you are 12' away - do a google search and look up recommended viewing distances. At any rate, as big as you can afford. I can't believe how ...
Low Volumes
About your before 10PM question - you need to look up what your local law is about the acceptable decibel level of noise. You will almost certainly find out that unless you are playing your system ridiculously loud, that the level you do play it a...
Rega 700 rewire
It is also my understanding that the wiring on the RB700 is significantly superior to the RB300, in fact that is one of the P5's selling points over even the new P3-24. I would say put your money elsewhere.
Dealing with a large TV between speakers
Looking at your drawing, I would definitely agree with Shadorne that the TV is not the main issue. In fact, I would say that the sliding glass door behind the left speaker, and the entryway behind the right speaker probably have even more to do wi...
Select Your Less Than Ideal System
Looks like you don't have much of a paper here, with the overwhelming choice being C, to which I add my vote as well. If you included some more "moderates" in your choices you would get much more variety of response.
Record Cleaning
Another cleaning option is to buy the Nitty Gritty Record Doctor III - you have to turn the record yourself, but it is WAY cheaper than alot of other machines and mine does a great job. I use the Audio Intelligent fluids with it, which are great -...
High Efficiency Speakers Your top 3 or more
Altec A7's, Klipschorns, Klipsch Belles, Klipsch Cornwalls - I have not had the pleasure of hearing the Avantgardes.
Dynamics at lower volumes?
Horn speakers have a greater dynamic range than any other type, not only on the loud end, but also the soft end. Elizabeth's suggestion of the electrostats is the next best choice for soft dynamics.
Vandersteen 2C vs. Klipsch Cornwall
Thanks for the response, Viridian. I will definitely try moving the Cornwalls against the wall in a few days when I get a chance for a listening session. I can't put them both in corners in my living room, unfortunately. I have a push-pull amp rig...
Vandersteen 2C vs. Klipsch Cornwall
Viridian, I have read your posts about horns in general and Cornwalls in specific with great interest, as I own a pair myself. The one thing I would disagree with you on is your description of horns in general as "boxy." I am still puzzled by your...
Bellari VP 129 vs B&K Phono 10
Forgot to add, please give us your impressions of the Jolida vs. the Bellari when you hear them both!
Bellari VP 129 vs B&K Phono 10
I have found the Bellari to be better than anything else I have heard in it's price range, including the Pro-Ject mentioned above. The Jolida's are supposed to be good (have not heard one) but as someone else mentioned, they are three or four time...
ProAc fans?
The Studio 140's are very nice floorstanders indeed, if you are interested in those. I personally prefer floor standers to monitors, and the Studio 140's would not be too large for most rooms.
Building a listening room in new house; Texas?
As a Texan who grew up north of San Antonio, I can tell you that one of the biggest reasons you will not find alot of houses there with basements is the limestone rock, especially in the central part of the state you are looking at. Vast amounts o...
