CD Player Advice
You might be able to find a used Rega Apollo for that price, or one of their older players such as the Planet or Jupiter. I bought a new Apollo, and can tell you it has a very nice, warm sound.
no Direct TV DVR without phone line?
Ah, that explains it, I still have a Tivo on one of my sets, so I do need to be connected to the phone line then. Thanks for the info!
First New Integrated Tube Amp - Recommendations
I'll repeat the PrimaLuna suggestion - I have the Dialogue 2 myself.
Need some advising
It depends on what kind of sound you want - you can drive them with just about anything, so you have alot of choices. I would agree with the tube suggestions, they match very well with horns. I have a PrimaLuna Dialogue 2 driving my Klipsch Cornwa...
no Direct TV DVR without phone line?
Stanwal, I have a question about your post - I was told by the DirecTV people when I first set up the DVR five years ago now that it had to be connected to a phone line, because this is how they update the programming info in the guide, which happ...
CD has laid back and uninvolving sound
I would agree that you are mostly describing the differences inherent in the two mediums, I don't think that this is at all "peculiar." Vinyl is going to have more dynamics than digital, and a more life-like sound ( and bloom is not a quality usua...
A spousal revelation ... and a tall order. Help
I would heartily second the horn speaker recommendation, particularly with your low-powered tube amps. I have a pair of used Klipsch Cornwalls that I bought here a year ago for only $600. You can find the big Klipschorns used in that price range s...
Rega P3-24, Pro-Ject RM-5, or Technics 1200?
Tvad, that is an excellent question. Adam18 has basically answered it for me, as well, thanks. I have heard that if you want to try a different cartridge on a Rega, you have to buy their spacers to do so, as Rega's cartridges are not quite the sta...
Rega P3-24, Pro-Ject RM-5, or Technics 1200?
Hi guys - I thought I made it clear that I had not heard a modified Technics, and that therefore my comments only applied to the unmodified one, which I have heard. I take your word for it that the modifications improve it, but I stand by what I s...
Rega P3-24, Pro-Ject RM-5, or Technics 1200?
Tvad, I used to have a Technics that was a stock model. I have always considered Technics to be very much mid-fi, I am a little puzzled about the great numbers of people who seem to like it here and on that other audio forum. I have not heard it w...
Into 2009; What rules?? Tubes or Solid State
I would certainly vote for tubes - better imaging, more accurate instrumental timbres, better realization of the sound of the human voice, to name just three good reasons.
Rega P3-24, Pro-Ject RM-5, or Technics 1200?
I would say a P2 easily beats the RM-5. I haven't actually heard the new P3-24, but I have heard the P2 and the RM-5. I would also say it beats the Technics easily. I think that the Regas have a much bigger soundstage, and image quite a bit better...
Which TT the Pro-Ject RM-5 SE or Rega P3-24?
Well, as far as sources go, everything I have bought on audiogon has arrived in fantastic condition, though admittedly I haven't bought much here yet. I have apparently had much better luck on ebay than many posters here seem to have, I have almos...
Which TT the Pro-Ject RM-5 SE or Rega P3-24?
Agree that Rega actually does not offer much upgrades compared to most other turntable manufacturers, their business model is quite the opposite. As far as analog vs. digital, this has been much debated in other threads. Not to get into it here, b...
Which TT the Pro-Ject RM-5 SE or Rega P3-24?
I would disagree that it is harder to collect vinyl. There is plenty of great vinyl out there to be had - I have easily almost tripled my collection in the last six months, spending far less than I would have paid for the equivalent amount on CD. ...
