Highly efficient speakers to pair with my SET amp
The best match with an SET amp will be horn speakers. I second the Klipsch Cornwall recommendation - I bought mine here on audiogon for only $600. If those are too large for you, you could try the Heresey's. You can still find things in the Klipsc...
rega p3/24 vs. music hall mm5.1
Another vote for the Rega, and also for the TTPSU.
A good fit for my PrimaLuna Prologue Two?
I would disagree some with the previous post - I think the Rogue's are much brighter sounding amps than the PrimaLuna's, and I definitely prefer the latter. I would say, if you are looking for dynamic speakers, that the ProAc Studio 140's are a go...
Tube Amp Recommendations
Hi - I would highly recommend the PrimaLuna line. I have the Dialogue 2 integrated myself, but their separates are nice as well.
Power cords and soundstage
Cable can make a little bit of difference, however many people will tell you that initially this is only because there is a cleaner electrical connection, and that this seeming difference then disappears after a time. Alot of people waste alot of ...
Could someone recommend a good tube pre/main amp?
Electrostats are generally very power hungry speakers, so most tube amps would not necessarily be a good match, unless you buy one of the newer models that put out more wattage then the average tube amp. The more tubes in the amp, though, the cost...
Holographic imaging
Just found this thread today. My first thoughts on reading through it are that this thread hilariously proves just how many different definitions there are out there for these terms that audiophiles like to use. The only way to be absolutely sure ...
The focus and air lie
Mr. Tennis and Jaybo - both Nilthepill and myself posted descriptions of what is referred to as "air" in descriptions of sound by audiophiles earlier in the thread. And yes, you do hear it - only in an airless vacuum does no sound exist.
Best Male Singers of the 20th Century
Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. There are a great many reasons why he is one of the most recorded artists in history. Perhaps the greatest lieder singer of all time.
Choice of turntable ,tone arm and cartridge
You might try a Rega P9, or one of the top of the line Nottingham tables.
Speakers for classical using my SET rig?
Agree with Aball - I have Klipsch Cornwall II's myself. The Altec suggestion is also an excellent one.
Music for Riding a Storm Out?
Yikes! Turn your system OFF during a storm!!!
What would you chose?
I would agree with some of the posters who said try a different turntable.
The focus and air lie
I agree that many audiophiles have completely lost touch with what live music sounds like, in any type of venue, and that it is easier for salesmen to sell the details. However, Nedslions is I think confusing some of his terms. Granted that audiop...
Which Classical Recording is Best?
I am a professional symphonic musician, and I would be very interested to hear if any orchestras out there are releasing new recordings on vinyl. To my knowledge, this is not happening anywhere. Many orchestras are releasing recordings that are se...
