No right channel in new cartridge
Chakster, is there a website where defective cartridges are sold exclusively?i just wonder how you know so definitely the value.tochsi, my own opinion of the sumiko is not high, even with 2 good channels. Do what you like, but I’d take the opportu...
Do 45 rpm 12" LPs really sound better than 33 rpm?
I'm glad most people agreed with Mike Lavigne, even though I said it first.  I don't care if Mike gets the credit; Mike is good company in a discussion of this sort, because he has heard more "stuff", both software and hardware, than most any of u...
Do 45 rpm 12" LPs really sound better than 33 rpm?
The discussion is degenerating into a series of inconclusive anecdotes. If you take the single master tape from a modern studio and from it create both a 33 and a 45, on the same lathe using the same source of vinyl on the same day and then play t...
Do 45 rpm 12" LPs really sound better than 33 rpm?
Differences that favor the original 33 version over the re-issue 45 version could of course be related simply to the quality level of the respective manufacturing processes.  Those are variables we cannot control for, and the data are worthless fo...
Do 45 rpm 12" LPs really sound better than 33 rpm?
What is your question? The physics dictates that 45 rpm is superior, but you won’t always hear the difference if the source material is flawed. However 33 should not sound BETTER than 45. Possibly your turntable is having issues at 45 rpm. The aut...
No right channel in new cartridge
Tochsi, yes, swap red with white, then blue with green, then hook it up and listen, and don’t let anyone make you anxious. Sounds like you are dealing with a responsible seller and it’s still possible that the fault lies in your system. (I have pu...
Tell me about Thales TTT compact turntable
It’s “Lew M”But why is his lack of interest in a Thales tonearm a loss to the OP, and especially why is it a loss to me?
Tell me about Thales TTT compact turntable
Whatthe, the OP explicitly stated he is interested in the Thales turntable only. He has no intention of purchasing a Thales tonearm.Pani, if you love your Garrard, I think you’d prefer another idler or DD turntable over most belt-drives. And what’...
Retip for zyx
To the person who suggested that I should compare a retipped universe to an OEM universe, I can’t do that because I only have one universe cartridge, and it has its original stylus, which has only 50 or so hours on it.However, tooblue’s experience...
No right channel in new cartridge
Now switch the connections at the rear of the cartridge itself. If the problem moves from one channel to the other when you do that, you will know that it is the cartridge that is defective. At that point, I would consider returning the cartridge...
No right channel in new cartridge
You imply, but don't say explicitly, that the cartridge functioned in both channels at some point after you purchased and installed it into this very same system.  Is that the case?  Or was it "dead on arrival" in the R channel?
JC3+ With Kleos SL?
65db of gain equates to 1778 times V. So 0.25mV of cartridge output becomes ~450mV.64db of gain equates to ~1600 times V. The 0.25mV output is amplified to ~400mV.Unless you’re using a passive linestage, you’re going to end up with ~4V of signal g...
JC3+ With Kleos SL?
Of course, I would never pretend to challenge the knowledge level of anyone like Jonathan Carr, when it comes to this subject. However, please show me where Jonathan Carr ever wrote that 65 DB of gain was good but 64 dbof gain is not good. Thanks.
Victor X1 IIE question
Different, but who knows which is better? Chakster?
Help! New mono cartridge for Dad's present-need the least amount of tweaking
While I do agree that you can have a very satisfactory listening experience with mono LPs, using a stereo cartridge, I have yet to discover a mono LP that doesn’t sound even better when reproduced using either a mono cartridge or a preamp with a ...
