Tips for buying used Vinyl needed
via mailorder, you have to get a feel for how each vendor grades, as it is somewhat subjective. Especially if they only grade "visually", which is sometimes useless. Then buy more from those with whom you have a positive experience. I hate cleanin...
Are audiophile speakers turn on for single women?
Not a chance. Dream on.
Nakamichi Dragon Performance with Type II tapes
I had no idea metal tape cost so much now. I have not used my Dragon for recording in several decades. But Inna, with all due respect, back in the day I really did prefer the sound of chrome tape. Metal always sounded a bit harsh to me, better spe...
How necessary is a zerostat gun?
Samhar, Ha! Will try it on child at the earliest opportunity. We rarely need them in Houston, it's not the heat, it's the ...
Hooking a turntable to a laptop in order to record
Ok, I did not realize a/d converters were common; wouldn't think they would be very good, given the cost constraints. Will check into that further. A "mic" input is usually not usable as a "line" input, is it?
How necessary is a zerostat gun?
Not needed unless you get a lot of static. Doesn't work on children.
Hooking a turntable to a laptop in order to record
The simple answer to your question is, "No." Even after putting the signal through a phono preamp, you need to do an analogue to digital (a/d) conversion; computers only record in digital. There are a few phono pre's intended for archiving vinyl t...
Nakamichi Dragon Performance with Type II tapes
Nakamichi tape was re-branded TDK, supposedly "center cut". It is true that metal tape will perform slightly better at the frequency extremes, but I usually preferred the chrome tapes, which sounded more uniform and "musical" to me, and less expen...
What are the optimal percentages for analog system
the grado and belari are not good for each other. both kind of on the low definition, warm and fuzzy side; instead of balancing each others' weaknesses, they add to them. I had a Bellari and hated it, so that would be the first to go, for me.
How does a beginner turntable compare to digital ?
I was initially very disappointed when I tried what you are contemplating. Lots of good advice above, especially those who point out that a turntable also requires a cartridge, phono preamp, cable... and an isolation stand or similar device. It ad...
Negative Feedback a deal killer?
It might be for me. Nfb seems to suck the life out of music.
Please simplify Disc Doctor Cleaner w/ VPI 16.5
I prefer to wash it manually using a dd brush, rinse manually using another dd brush, and only then put it on the vpi; that is, using the vpi only for final rinse or two with vacuum
Buying new, but old speakers
Agree with Buconero, but it's even worse than that. In the description of the blue book methodolgy, if there aren't any comparables, they make some up, based on "similar" gear, as if it were interchangeable. I just threw out some 14-year-old speak...
Which tonearm?
Origin Live arms are excellent, and would fit your rega-ready armboard.
Transmission Line
As I understand it, higher level frequencies are absorbed by the damping in the transmission line, so the transmission line port reinforces the bass response - and the roll off is more gradual than with ported enclosures - so PMC's seem to have mo...
