Amp suggestions to pair with eggleston
I don't think tubes would be the way to go in this situation. If you are going to use a single 5 channel amp, I would recommend an amp with quality solid state power and beefy transformers.Krell, Plinius and BAT are a few brands that come to mind ...
Help designing mac mini music server
Oh your right Sidssp. I was thinking about the size of a song.
Help designing mac mini music server
Get the fastest and most RAM (4 Gigs would be nice) you can afford. Get a NAS (Network Access Server) that is Mac compatible (Buffalo Link Station is what I use and recommend). The NAS will hook up to your router. Hardwiring your mini to your rout...

Would an SACD Player improve my sound?
I would suggest checking out the TRL modded Sony 595 for $350 that just popped up on Audiogon. I know nothing about the seller or the specific deck but I can vouch for the 595. I owned this sacd player for a few years and loved it. I only sold it ...

I have owned a pair for about 5 or 6 years now and have integrated them with various speakers. These subs do what they do very well. They are more subtle than most subs you are probably used to. They do not move allot of air around and "load" a ro...

Detailed sound? Real?
The biggest difference I find with "electric" live music is dynamics, bass impact, and how the room is energized. Clarity, detail and other common audiophile desires are pretty far down the list when trying to recreate this sound in my living room...
This is a silly hobby.
I think this hobby has a pretty good bang for the buck factor provided one doesn't do anything stupid, like buying the $10,000 pre amp that just showed up on the cover of Sterophile at full retail. If you buy used and let the other guy take the de...
Detailed sound? Real?
I think this hobby can be split between two types of people: Those who listen to music and those who listen to stereo gear.
Do you ever wonder?
95% of Grateful Deads music is pretty marginal. The thing is though is that almost everything they have ever done has been recorded and they've been around a long time and played allot of concerts. The math is pretty impressive. So if you can weed...
