Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Foster 9:The DNA-500 has more than enough power and current to drive the Walsh 5000s. This must be a placement issue, I have measured (and heard) substantial differences in the bass output of my Walsh 5s in the main power band (~40-60 hz) with mov...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
John Strohbeen strikes me as a strict engineer and objectivist and when asked which amps are best to drive the Ohm Walsh 5 mentions the most powerful and high current designs. Anecdotally, he is purported to like the Carver TFM-75 (750 W/ch) which...

The Ohm Walsh 5s produce some of the best bass known, in quantity, quality and extension. Why would you possibly need a subwoofer? There's got to be a better placement - a few inches can change the bass output in-room, dramatically.

Mapman said:You are using the 500w/ch Wyred4Sound amp these days I think I recall? How do you like it? Any chance this is too much power for the 5s resulting in the driver damage you report? The 500w/ch Wyred is probably the most powerful amp optio...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
10:1 is based on reasonable power loss across the preamp output: the pream-amp circuit is a power divider. At 10:1 preamp to amp impedance only about 10% of the voltage signal is "wasted" in the preamp output stage. However, no preamp has a perfec...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
The Walsh woofer is deficient at the extreme ends of it's bandwidth until it is fully broken in. So before breakin, you will not get the extreme bottom end thundering bass. And the upper treble range from 4-8 khz will sound recessed. Rest assured,...

"Ever happen to you" strange electronics
It's a Krell! Obviously, monsters from the Id!
Tubelike SS Power amp
I drove my Walsh 5's for years with a Sumo Andromeda II - beast of a MOSFET amp with a warm tubey sound - very nice.Presently, I'm using Wyred4Sound ST-1000 power amp and the sound is every bit as warm as the Sumo, but quieter background but super...
Power Amp..opinions please
Yes, sensitivitity is defined as voltage input to drive power amp to maximum output. A passive preamp and CD source outputtind standard 2V should drive the W4S amp to very satisfying levels.
Power Amp..opinions please
My preamp is a vintage Pioneer Elite SP-99D preamp/processor. It is an active unit which I believe puts out more than 5V at max. I never have the volume dial past 11 o'clock and that is for low-level classical CDs. I believe the sensitivity of 2.5...
Power Amp..opinions please
I've owned several Rotel amps, B&K and Classe amps of mid 1990s mintage, and SUMO Polaris and Andromeda II. Of these, I thought the Andromeda II (240W into 8 ohms; 400W into 4 ohms; 80 Amps peak)best, having a warmish sound for SS and a sweet ...
Power Amp..opinions please
I have been listening to the Wyred4Sound ST-1000 stereo power amp for about 300 hours and they are fabulous sounding: ultraclean, dead quiet, sweet top end with complete elimination of phase distortion, zero audible distortion, and power reserves ...
Ohm Walsh Pro 200 Cylinders - Sound? Owners?
I have a pair of Pro-200s that I purchased around 1990. Fantastic sound - trademark Walsh open 3D sound. Very clean - excellent dynamics - thow a huge soundstage with lots and lots of air. They don't have the hefty bottem end of the bigger walshes...
