If your cartridge is MM, the Music Hall Bellari phono pre-amp seems reasonably priced. Never heard it though.

Wanted to toss this into the sub-discussion on this thread regarding omni versus conventional imaging. Was just listening to "Open Arms" by Journey on standard issue "Greatest Hits CD" on my larger Ohm 5's.This track has an interesting piano solo o...
Ohm Walsh old vs. Microwalsh new
Glad to hear it.Try moving the speaks 6" or so closer to the wall as a test if you haven't already and see if that helps. Also, if you haven't already, make sure you have both speaks connected to amp in phase, ie + to + and - to - on both. Bass is ...

"the Playback Designs MPS-5 has a totally custom designed, programable DAC"A programmable DAC sounds like a useful feature. Does that mean it can in practice be programmed to sound different case by case if needed/desired? I'm curious if anyone kn...

Zk,YEs, I've had at least one pair of Ohms in my system for 30 years. I've been researching upgrades heavily for the last two years. Now, I own 3 pair of Ohms (2 Walsh design) as a result. MAggies and B&Ws have seen the door in the process.

The Music hall sounds like a very good cost effective option, if needed.

Wow. How does the Playback Designs accomplish what apparently other players cannot? What is the difference or new innovation in a technical sense? The designer must be doing something special or unique?

ZK,All I can say with certainty is that EVERY recording (good, bad and in-between) sounds more lifelike or "live" on my Ohms than any other speaker I've owned concurrently (Maggie, B&W, Dynaudio, Triangle) and been able to do direct a/b compar...

Jpaik,What you describe with Morrisons is very similar to the Ohm experience.Ohm describes their Walsh wide-range drivers as a "Coherent Line Source", not a point source, though I think the difference here is marginal.Ohm wide-range Walsh driver o...

KN,I think there is a lot of validity and insight to the assertions on the Morrison site regarding nature of recordings and stereo playback. I would still assert though that recordings are what they are in regards to how miked, mixed etc. Good ste...

Jpaik,Never heard of Morrison speaks before.Their web site has a nice accounting of the omni imaging experience compared to conventional designs. From that I would expect some similarities to Ohm , Dueval, German Physiks, MBL and the like, no?

What's unique about how the Boulder reads CDs and is it measurable somehow outside of subjective listening?
