Moody Blues "Question of bal." CD or SACD vs Vinyl
No. Unfortunately I do not have a SACD player.I think I noticed on Amazon though yesterday that there is yet another new series of Moody classic 7 remasters with bonus material available for pre-order and coming out soon? I'll be curious to hear w...
Small room, "budget priced" speaker advice, please
Knownothing,Ohms, omnis and other more exotic speaker designs are not for everyone, for sure. Its largely a matter of taste. For ~$1000, though, they do offer something completely different than the various box designs available in that range.

Yes. I've owned Ohms since ~ 1978 and currently have 3 pair, Walsh 5 Series 3, Walsh 100 Series 3 and Ohm Ls. Also own Dynaudio and Triangle. Also owned Maggie and B&W in the past.Never heard Micro Walshes specifically but have researched them...

If you think a live performance would sound good in your room, and are up for trying something a little different in order to achieve live-like sound from a small, affordable design, and like the idea of saving a couple c-bills perhaps, definitely...
Review: Playback Designs MPS-5 CD Player
At a glance, the write up does indicate that the reader component is where the re-read occurs, which makes sense. The key benefit of a music server though is to enable easy access to large amounts of music rather than having to swap CDs. I doubt th...

"My understanding is that in transfer the program re-reads the optical drive rather than "correcting" the error with a logarithm, except as a last resort."That could only help and not hurt. You don't have to have a server storage device in the pic...
Review: Playback Designs MPS-5 CD Player
"Mike, I understand the advantage of a server or harddrive-based system is the lower error rate in reading a hard drive vs. an optical transport reading a CD or SACD" Doesn't the content originate on CD and get read through optical drive prior to ...

"quantitatively, a most impressive work"I must give this a listen. Surely must sound better in digital/CD format than in phono/analog!!! I'd also like to run a sum check on the file and compare the total to other works!!!!Now I think I've discover...

Guys, I'll withhold judgment on sonic merits of specific high end players until I do some more listening, but I must confess all the talk about some of these vendors using older, scarce chips is a big red warning flag to me. If I drop a small fort...

Larryi,You're scaring me. Are you saying that some premium manufacturers charge a premium for older digital CD technology because older CD digital technology is better? I love antiques myself. Antique technology may hold value for historical and c...

Kops, Yep, the only way to know if an investment like that is worth it is to listen on the target system in the target room.Ironic isn't it that we discuss subtleties of high end audio in a place where we can't really listen to a darn thing?

Dcstep, thanks for the info.My ears tell me that no two cd players sound the same. I have it in my plans to give some higher end players a listen over time and see what I hear and go from there. I think the CD is probably the place where I might f...

Dcstep,My question is not about what specific parts do, that really doesn't matter, its what does the product as a whole do to justify the cost? Is there any specification or measurement or measurements available that can be used to quantitatively...
