any thoughts on apogee centaur speakers?
A lower Manhattan retailer had the 8" version (IIRC) on demo when I happened in there +/- 20 years ago. I remember thinking that it was the best soundstage/image I'd ever heard from a planar. Reporting now - 20 years after the fact - my impression...

Not sure if that was a brain cramp or typo. The List is the name of the album. I know several folks that agree with Drubin, but I think it's a GREAT collection of songs and I love the way Roseannne sings 'em. Can't comment on SQ off the top of my ...

Map, Roseanne's "A List" is a great record. She takes on a dozen (+ or -) classics and just nails 'em. She and Johnny definitely set the father daughter musical standard in my book.
R.I.P. Lou Reed
A microwave dinner is okay by me if there's nothing else to eat.
Distance from speakers - 2-way vs. 3-way vs. ?
Per Schubert, there is a distance at which a 1st order crossover theoretically maintains phase coherence - it will vary with the physical properties of the cabinet/drivers - but it's hard to otherwise generalize. As to extreme near field use, singl...

Red wine vinegar is produced by the metabolization of alcohol to vinegar. There may be trace amounts of residual alcohol remaining (also true of many other products), but to suggest that a restaurant needs to announce that as alcoholic is a bit of...
R.I.P. Lou Reed
He was, for better and worse, an amazingly influential artist. He definitely inspired a lot of the 70s artists who wanted to play with the idea that momentum was the key to r'n'r rhythm. Reed abstracted that into a laconic simmer that resonated wit...
Wireless Speakers?
Sonos can be very good. You need wifi or Ethernet to make it fly. Just hang a Sonos Bridge ($50) off your router and get a Connect unit for $350. At that point, you can use the solid DAC in the Connect, or go dig out to the DAC of your choice. Add...
Emo dumps Carver, the Carver site is down.
At the end of the day, the acquisition really isn't the relevant issue here. Barring some clever deal structure (unlikely to be effective, I'd think), when Emotiva acquired Carver, LLC, I'd assume that they inherited Carver LLC's' liabilities atte...
Your Preference: Resolution or Fullness?
I actually agree with the OP's premise - that it's almost always a trade off. More "warmth" in the upper bass ("fullness") tends to obscure resolution in the lower mids to some degree. I also agree with Viridian that tone trumps all.In my main sys...
The new Bob Dylan
I just listened thru his material on MOG and thought that it's mostly very good stuff. It's easy to hear the stylistic inspiration that Dylan provided for Jake Bugg and why the OP drew the connection. Personally, I'd prefer to say that he's a prom...
Polling MagnePan Users - Using a SubWoofer?
I use Rythmiks with my MMGs and they integrate seamlessly - as in I can't detect the handoff. I do use Audyssey in my system, which probably accounts for much of that success.
Tube Dealer Recommendation
I've bought a bunch of tubes from Upscale over the years - including one binge purchase of (IIRC) 6 different output tube types in matched quad sets to rotate thru my Prima Luna mono amps. I've always had a great experience at Upscale and I've got...
Two Subs?
Bo,Audyssey requires that the subs be calibrated at 75db, IIRC. If you're using a pair of reasonably high quality subs, that requires quite a low setting, right there. The volume dials on my Rythmiks are set at the very low end of their range. I c...
Emo dumps Carver, the Carver site is down.
Nothing strange there. I assume that Emotiva bought Carver (the company) and kept what they wanted (Brand name, designs, supplier relationships, any one of a hundred other "assets"), and cut loose what they didn't want, including Carver (the man)....
