| Vocals and upper midrange too forward? Don't overlook the possibility of changing the tone of your system by simply changing driver tubes (power tube changes will also work) in your amp. Works for me, all the time. That is one of the side benefits of using tube amps/preamps. | |
| Jazz for aficionados Frogman, Thanks for the recommendations. I really enjoy the Rivera & Brazil Guitar Duo album and intend to purchase it as a beginning view of Rivera's music. FWIW, as I age I find myself far more interested in small ensembles and solo instrume... | |
| Jazz for aficionados Frogman, When I listened to this recording I thought it might just be up your alley. "Havana Moon" by the TransAtlanticEnsemble. A fusion of Latin Jazz and Classical music. In a couple of cuts I’m reminded of Stravinsky’s Shadow Dances. It is pred... | |
| looking for ideas on a tube pre amp jeff99, When listening to a Primaluna Dialogue don't over look the substantial impact tube selection can make in taking you to the tonal response you want. It can make or break it, tube selection that is. Stock tubes are rarely ever the 'last word... | |
| ???Why The HUGE Discrepancy in Sensitivity Ratings??? Measurement techniques perhaps? Did yours match the manufacturers? | |
| Is it possible for the center image to drift from lp to lp? I agree with onhwy61. I think it has much to do with the mix of in phase and out of phase sound (too much out of phase info), but would add that whether or not it is an issue might well depend on your room and speaker set up. It does in mine anyw... | |
| Marantz and Stereophile? My search for reviews of Marantz integrated amps have more often than not, at least in the ’reference line’ resulted in finding reviews of a combination of the Integrated amp and the CDP players. There have been very few reviews of each component ... | |
| Jazz for aficionados Orpheus, I believe my post was intelligible, if not as artful as it might have been had I really cared. If you cannot understand it without amplification I would suggest you re-read my post of 2/28/16. BTW, FWIW, you have not accurately reported ... | |
| Jazz for aficionados orpheus10, Not to put too fine a point of this 'good v bad' issue, but as I see it, good v bad is commonly applied in an absolute sense but too often it is used in place of 'I like or dislike'. When you say 'like' or 'dislike' it is a personal s... | |
| tube monoblocks and preamp recommendations I was under the impression that the Altec 19's had about a 100db sensitivity rating which means they could easily be driven to very high levels by a flea watt amp, but that doesn't mean they have to be. I used a 50w class A solid state amp with m... | |
| Does anyone use the Silverline Audio SR 17 speakers? If so, how do you like them? The 17's are an excellent speaker and, as you have observed, they rarely come up for sale. I'm still waiting for a pair with the ESOTAR tweeter to appear. (I already have the Bolero's but am looking for a different tonal balance in a second room).... | |
| Jazz for aficionados Thanks for the post. I will order this record immediately. FWIW she has been my favorite jazz singer for over 10 years now - I don’t know how I missed this CD. | |
| Jazz for aficionados For anyone who enjoys music from the swing era, but is no all that engaged by the sound of big bands prevalent in the 30's and 40's, you might enjoy music by Scott Hamilton and his Quartet (or Quintet). A few of the CD's that I enjoy are 'Race Poi... | |
| BSG - QOL Anyone still using theirs? justubes2, Did you have to adjust speaker placement, i.e. moving them closer together and/or altering their toe in to compensate for loss in any center stage definition or frequency peak? |
