Optimal loading for Dynavector xx2
Don'tcha just hate when that happens?!!
Power Cable Recommendation
These XLO References are excellent 12 AWG cords, well shielded, good Hubbell connectors etc. Not "floppy" flexible, but bend easily and won't pull your equipment off the rack:http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?cablpowr&1151333032This guy h...
Is my Audio Alchemy DAC outdated?
Herman is right, but don't dump it (it's not worth that much anyway). I have one too, and it's still way better than the DAC in any under $300 DVD player.Recently, I discovered it will even accept/decode 24/96 sources (I was amazed!)
Optimal loading for Dynavector xx2
Flg2001: I agree with Xlr8or (based on what you said re: balance toward high frequency) and therefore want to revise my original recommendations.I would start lower, maybe as low as 40 ohms or sufficiently low to hear "enough-but-poor-quality-bass...
What's snapping?
It's not static if it happens with all sources (about 80% sure on that one) and not cabling (I agree w/ Porziob) then I'd guess RFI -- probably not a faulty ballast however (although could be, but that's not the kind of RFI they produce.)I'd guess...
whats the best styus cleaner gel
Zaikesman, I think you can still get the Zerodust for 1/2 price from Mehran (the ZYX guy) at Sorasound. You can buy a lifetime supply (one package) of Magic Eraser at Home Depot for around five bucks (maybe less, I cant remember)You're probably ri...
whats the best styus cleaner gel
I second the Magic Eraser. I put crazy-glue on a plastic coffee stirrer and jamb it into a sugar-cubed size piece. Then with the TA in its rest (locked down) I lift it up against the stylus/cantilever and then back down. No back-and-forth action! ...
whats the best styus cleaner gel
You can also simply wipe the Zerodust with an alcohol swab/pad, without removing it from its case, and it'll be ready to go in about 20 sec. (when the alcohol evaporates.)
How to set SRA after determining true vertical?
Excuuuuuze me, but when did this turn into a musical preferences thread?
AC cord polarity?? Does it matter???????
Metro, the answer to:"In most homes, aren't the neutral and "ground" combined within the breaker box?"Is no. And this is very important to understanding the "leakage" problem oulined in the article you cite above. The neutral is zero relative to th...
How to set SRA after determining true vertical?
Andrew, I only mentioned the business about setting new carts' VTF at the high end of the range because it is necessary to do that in order to get the cantilever/coil assembly to "line up" squarely in the magnetic flux field (maximum output).Later...
How to set SRA after determining true vertical?
Andrew, don't be skeptical. There is absolutely no mystery here. It's all physics and simple geometry. The most important thing to remember when approaching the matter of setting correct SRA, is to have all the other settings perfect beforehand. I...
AC cord polarity?? Does it matter???????
Metro04, you are correct in your basic evaluation of the situation, but yes, you are missing something, and that's the damn power company! As the article Jea48 mentioned above illustrates, the power company uses (literally) the ground for its retur...
How to set SRA after determining true vertical?
Doug's post reminded me that this word "level" is getting tossed around quite a lot. Just so it gets mentioned, the first thing to "level" is the platter. And if you have a suspended table, that means with a clamp and record in place on the platte...
AC cord polarity?? Does it matter???????
Jea, a 240V line is inherently "balanced". Its ground and neutral are the same (center) conductor, with a potential of +120v on one side and -120V on the other (which reverses every 60 sec. of course.) BTW, I don't believe European 240V power is c...
